Atlantic Seaflight 70351.41.55 is another candidate. I can get it for $250. It's exactly twice the price of the Timberland. If you think it's worth it, please let me know!
This is the exact watch I picked up for myself because it was on sale after Christmas for $220. If I decide to change the band it might be a hassle but I have black leather for all my other accessories. I don't wear it unless I'm going somewhere formal. Maybe if I didn't work with my hands I would get something with a metal band.

I wasn't completely ruling out bracelets. I just prefer leather because I think it looks better. However, I ruined a leather strap once when I was hiking in the mountains in the summer and it soaked up a lot of sweat. I learned to use transparent leather grease to waterproof it at least a bit.

I was thinking of the face, not necessarily the band. I don't wear watches much anymore, except for occasions. For outdoor I would think something with a silicone band, and no finish would be ideal. Back before cell phones I had to polish scratches off my watch face pretty often.

I have trashy watch tastes but I like having a watch. My all time favorite watch is the Freestyle Velvet Shark, unfortunately discontinued:

- Day, Date, and 24hr hands, not some faux-complications like many budget watches have.
- 100m water resistance, haven't tested to anywhere close to that depth but they've held up in any water I've put them in.
- Fucking sturdy.
- Shocking amount of compliments for a <$100 watch.
Fun one that indulges my weebery, Sakura Storm G-Shock:

And last my least favorite, not really because it's a bad watch but because it's a bit too big for my tastes. A GA100C:

I forgot to update but I finally got my submariner last week.Ver archivo adjunto 9195369
Hell yeah brother. Wear it like a tool watch, that's what it's made for. Took forever to get my father in law every day wearing his explorer 2. I kept trying to remind him that the watch was made for cave divers and it's doubtful he could do anything to kill the watch that wouldn't have killed him along with it.
I also recently repaired and restored a 1966 Caravelle Devil diver manual. The Crystal was impossible to see through but the rest of it was basically untouched. Got some new gaskets in him, relumed the hands which had cracked some lume in the same pumpkin color, and got a period diver tite Crystal. He's the best of both worlds. Reminds me of the old bubble back 50s 369 Dial subs. Water resistance is at least 100m (could get him tested to see if if's back up to the 666ft eventually) with the new gaskets so I've been treating him like a tool watch and swimming in him, showering, working on cars.

I plan to its gonna split time with my Black bay as my daily. The Datejust 41 I'm now waiting on will be my nicer dress watch.
Y'know, I always liked the Submariner, but at this point I hesitate to ever get one because then I'd be a Rolex owner, and I don't want to be associated with those.
Ehh the Rolex hype stuff is overblown. I've already had several positive interactions of my Sub that I never had with the Black bay. It does get a lot more attention but I live in an area where Rolexs are probably a lot less common compared to big major cities.

I can imagine, I mean, they're great watches. But reading too much LinkedIn and posts by absolute faggots who think a Rolex is a proper luxury watch soured me massively on them.

The same people who buy a Rolex for the luxury are the same who buy a mustang for a sports car. Like yeah, it's a damn good watch. Was iconic because of how damn fine it was. A (pre~2000) mustang is a damn fine car. Was iconic because of how damn fine they were. If you drive and wear them like damn fine items, they're perfect. If you treat them like they're future investments proving your status, I've got a handful of homebuilt Frankenstein Rolex and a farmer's field full of ratted mustangs to sell you. That being said, I congratulate every first Rolex. That's a big step for most people into damn fine wristwatches. Double applause if they're planning on actually honoring the ethos that made them so iconic by beating the fuck out of them like every other tool watch.

True. They're made to be worn, not displayed or treated as status objects. I do still want one. But then I see some retard on LinkedIn writing about how paying 29k for a dateless steel Submariner is somehow not retarded and a bad deal and I don't want to be associated with them anymore.
Or some faggot writing about how he doesn't clean his GMT (which is fine, beat them to hell) or set them for daylight saving time because it's just a status symbol for him, an immigrant who worked himself up the ladder. It's a GMT, if you're too lazy to set the time twice a year, at least use the bezel... Love Rolex, hate many Rolex owners.
I still want one... Until the next time I see the dumbest shit on LinkedIn, I guess.

Yeah I hate the gray market prices on this shit so I had to play the waiting game with the AD but I got my watch and thats all that matters I'm gonna weat it whereever and treat it like the tool it's meant to be. Even dive with it but I'm still gonna take care of it. I wanna have it be a family heirloom. Once I get a datejust I may be more careful with it but its a dressier watch so I wanna try to keep it more pristine for nice occasions.

Speaking of divers, apparently it's controversial but I do like a diver on a leather strap. A decade ago I won an automatic "diver", some department store brand with some basic Seagull movement. Pretty large, with a pretty nice chainmail strap. Says it's 300m watertight and has a helium valve, but it's not a certified diver. Anyway, it's half a pound of steel, and fairly quickly it stopped working properly (didn't keep any reserve at all), so it landed in the drawer, but recently I got it out to maybe use it as a project to learn watchmaking on, and it started working properly. Since the original chainmail strap was nice, but also ridiculous and heavy, I decided to put a leather strap on it and damn, I really like it.
Later I learned that divers on leather straps are apparently a no-go for some, but really, I like it.

People saw that a lot. I don't remember which brand, but they make 100m water resist leather straps. Tested in saunas and heat houses and saltwater and stuff. Something with how they treat and seal the leather. I think leather straps are baller and clean up a dive watch a ton. They look really incredible on cordovan.

I just got something decent looking, this ain't a watch for diving. Not that I actually dive... but the proper divers I have keep their steel or NATO straps. But this one is nice. It's a fairly heavy one, so having a lighter strap is nice.
