We talk about bikes, trains, walking, and other based things.
Anti-car gemmies should be posted here

Carcucks deserve to die from the smog in their tin coffins, bikeGODs won.

The CIA bikers glow in the dark you can see them when you're driving. You just run them over, that's what you do. Fucking CIA bikers.

Criminals know that there is no reasonable escape once the doors close on a train, subway, or bus (unless the driver stops, which is rare considering he has schedules to keep and regular passengers who know him by name and rely upon him) And that is why public transportation is a HUNTING GROUND for criminals seeking an easy score, a victim, or simply to ruin the day of as many other human beings as possible.

The only acceptable public transportation is air travel. You cannot go on if you have warrants as far as I know, it’s expensive, plus you cannot move around very much at all. If you do, the stewards will yell at you. Oh and air Marshalls are armed.

Until subways and buses have such safety rails, expect more women to have their throat cut or be lit on fire while still alive when using public transportation. And the politicians who advocate for these are either looking to embezzle from their construction a la California’s light rail, or are psychos that want others to suffer. Or both.

we already have a thread for this

Tbh I don't think I want to discuss urbanism here, because too much of the discussion is done by people who've never seen in person a traditional (emphasis on this word) european city, and their closest image of it is Disneyland, so walkability and better public transport = their cars being taken away, but they stay in the very same urban hell as they do now, now in even worse isolation.
Combine that with the mccarthyism of people who see as marxism things that are in direct contradiction and even noticing and pointing out something could be done better or differently is marxism, and, well, no thanks.

Our current cities suck for driving, suck for walking, suck for riding bikes and suck for public transport. Something has got to give: I vote for public transport because I hate poor people and the disabled.

There's a sizable cycling culture in the US, tho it's overshadowed (hehe) by its massive (hehe) walmart scooter culture

And also lazy, the biggest advocates for walkable cities always seem too lazy to walk for more than a few hundred feet.
While all cities are shitpits, some manage to combine the very worst aspects of non-urban and urban environments

Dallas is worthless. You can walk forever and not get even close to where you want to go. Like I said, the sheer size of Texas coupled with a typical city.

The next Transportation Secretary better make “sky highways” a thing. Giant columns that support roads high above buildings. It can solve so much traffic in congested areas.

We went to the moon and split the atom. We can make highways that are above ground rather than at ground level.

The Northstar commuter train shut down 2 days ago and I rode the last trip. Shitty schedules, stops, and ridership caused it to shutdown (Also I was talking to the fag in the picture, guess he's in a polycule. What a surprise...)

Organically walkable towns are fine. Forcing the issue on cities that are not naturally that way is horrible.

My city has been aggressively hostile to cars for the last decade and it's about as far from a walkable city as you can get (short of polar climes). They're been removing lanes of traffic from major thoroughfares and just restriping them as pedestrian areas (this was done to try to reduce the number of junkies getting hit by cars). They've also made public transportation free and it's straight up hobo central. Everything is worse.

You are describing the disease in detail and still insist on treating the symptom

Yeah sure let’s just casually talk about slaying millions of black men, that will be politically popular

Sorry to sound so dismissive. It’s just like in most chats when people casually say “let’s just nuke X place” like, great idea. Let’s get started immediately on that. Sarcasm.

"Having your own car is wasteful! Use public transportation, it's cheaper and more environmentally friendly!"
The public transportation in question:

You can't have every white-collar Professional Email Sender get paid to stay at home, and also retain the ability to keep a commuter train afloat. The math doesn't work.

I still don't understand what "walkable city" means

Sounds like some gay shit, you can walk in every town already
It's just a buzzphrase put forth by faggots who grew up in the suburbs and hated it because they got picked on as kids for being gay.

Though I don't think I will give up my car for any reason until I'm so old I'm running over farmer's markets, I do have to day American urban design is beyond atrocious. Every place I've lived I've had at least one grocery store within walking distance and a few more in biking distance, but there was only one city where I wasn't taking my life in my hands by walking or biking to just one. There is always one or two places where the pavement ends and there is a only a tiny strip between a ditch and where the cars are. It feels like such a waste to take my car a half a mile just to pick up some essential like eggs, coffee, or milk.
When I hear "walkable cities" coming from most politicians or activists, I know it is not my ability to pick up a few things from the grocery store they are concerned with. I'm pretty sure it has to do with hearding us into bug hives and walkable means "where you are allowed to go".

I feel like, for the activists, it's got a lot to do with them being high-income manchildren who can't understand why anyone would want to live a different life from their consoomerist one. It's a big thing on Reddit, and the average Redditor is an autistic childless thirtysomething software engineer--like, that may be an exaggeration, but I think the numbers actually show that to be true.

The reasoning those guys use is basically: they like being able to go to cool mixology bars and cool new Thai/Ethiopian/(insert this year's cool ethnic food culture) places, they're smart, so that's the only logical way to live. They willfully don't understand being, say, the first person in your family to have a college degree and make good money, or wanting to have a big backyard to have parties and play with your kids in, so anyone who wants that is Wrong.

Idk, I'm behind on the r/fuckcars thread.

I like public transportation. I don't understand how anyone could be against it, and the people complaining about safety love to ignore how everyone knows multiple people that have been in car accidents.
I'll never understand biking though. I just look at it as a special interest instead of a valid means of transportation. It's slow, it leaves you sweaty, and you have a whole uniform (its literally illegal to ride without a helmet where I live). It seems really impractical. Politicians building bike lines is just them pandering to a special group of autists rather than helping the public.
