I'm looking for a VPN just to torrent shit because I live in a survelliance state and I was wondering why people give Mullvad such high ratings. I know that NordVPN has a sketchy past with their no-logs policy and constant YouTube ads but I was wondering which is better bang-for-buck wise
Mullvad is like 5 euros a month not sure how much Nord is but I wouldn't get Nord, all the mainstream ones that are shilled by youtubers are undoubtly shitty. You could also try proton vpn since it has port forwading but its more expensive than mullvad.

You can pay cash and never have to divulge any identifying information to them, so if they ever get raided, there's nothing to connect you to any given account.

Mullvad is the best for privacy as they have a proven record on that front, but for torrenting you might want another VPN as Mullvad doesn't offer port forwarding.

Torrenting on Mullvad is OK, not brilliant, but not restricted, mileage may vary, you are going through multiple servers.
Mullvad genuinely do not keep logs. They have been raided several times by Swedish and Interpol units and nothing has been found.

Their charges are good, their payment methods include anonymity. Top Tier VPN provider.

My NordVPN subscription ends in two months and I've been thinking of switching to Mullvad. I have a question for Mullvad users: does google.com ever ask you to solve captchas? I had to switch from Private Internet Access to Nord a few years ago because I couldn't use Google search 70% of the time.

I want to switch because of Nord's unfair business practices. Last time my sub was about to end, they wanted to charge me extra (not the """discount""" AKA the real price, which is about $5,50 a month for 12 months). Fortunately I got their automated e-mail with all the details, but I bet there's lots of people who are too busy to notice this. Scummy!

I don't have any problems with Mullvad + Ffox-based browser when using Goolag. Besides, NordVPN is compromised and they'll happily sell you to the authorities if required. Although you might have to think about another provider if you want to use bit torrent with Mullvad, since they don't provide port-forwarding (me, I just sit on TBs of ratio accumulated over the years so it's no problem for me).

Yes, but usually it's just a specific exit node and if you just change that it works again. It's not like it renders it completely unusable like some do.

I am not a big fan of protonvpn but for just torrenting its decent, they take bitcoin and their available servers list is massive. As others said, for general use mullvad is the best but not for torrenting.

Anyone used NYM ? I wanted to get into it but it feels like a lot of marketing and when I tried it even the fast mode was fucking way more slow than mullvad multi-hop.

NYM is great on mobile but unusable on Linux, simply wont connect.

Sometimes, but generally not.
Thanks. I think I'll switch to Mullvad then.

I have another question: is it normal that I can't use split tunnelling for selected programs and kill switch at the same time?
There's a few sites I absolutely need and they refuse to load with VPN on. My solution was to enable split tunnelling for Microsoft Edge and only use that browser to browse those sites, but they don't work unless I disable kill switch...

Doing a quick Google, some say that you can use it, while other sites say you can't.

According to Reddit, you can with Mullvad:

Mullvad, I don't think, says anything about limitations in there help sections:
