I have a virtual machine for every major os, so I can fake my useragent on websites. It also prevents attacks from happening. Why use a docker app when you can hide your real system from hackers?

vmware workstation is free of charge, it's still proprietary and their main advantage imho is their graphics acceleration in windows guests
last time i checked the connections it makes it seemed to not call home (at least on the arch aur build, this was before boadcom) so it's not that bad even if it is proprietary

I've got a virtualbox machine with windows xp installed. I think I might have installed it originally to fuck around with SMILE(a super metroid rom editor) if I remember right. I think it wouldn't work with WINE. I think I also used it to play Diablo. I don't really use it any more. I just let it sit on my hard drive taking up space.

It is still possible to deduce the actual underlying OS by parsing the driver version of the computer's GPU with the WebGPU API: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/WebGPU_API
In which case, a virtual machine (ideally with GPU passthrough) would be necessary in order to truly spoof it.

Proxmox is good if you have a spare box to install it on. Realistically it's just QEMU with a web UI, I've found it to be very useful for spinning up random VMs when required and you can control it through the web interface on your main machine which is fine performance wise for light tasks or if you're just screwing around.

Disabling hardware acceleration should prevent this but some sites will probably perform poorly and might make you stand out fingerprint-wise since I imagine most people wouldn't have it disabled.

I've done this but didn't think to record it. I got one of those tech support scam calls where some streetshitter tries to convince me my computer is sending out viruses. I cloned my Windows XP machine and let him in through TeamViewer and he "proved" my computer was sending shit out by showing me some random Windows logs with scary red icons and entering a random website into the W3C markup validation site, which naturally produced some errors that he said were viruses. He then said I could be in big trouble if I didn't stop sending the viruses and offered to remove them for a fee. I started fucking with him and when he caught on, he encrypted the virtual machine. I wish I had thought to record it. There wasn't anything like the Youtube scam baiters and no DO NOT REDEEM moment, but I had fun.

You could use Firefox.
Or you could also spoof the navigator.gpu object.
