From a perspective of a female

Although not technically a virgin, I feel like it at times. I lost mines kinda late at 19. Or at least what society considers late. I still kinda hate the fact that it took me that long, especially since my friends had sex in highschool. I think the reason it took forever was because of social anxiety and having a rather dysfunctional childhood, which shaped what my brain considered normal in regards to sex and relationships. To me, I feel like the "female virgins are valued" mentality is outdated and all but dead whereas the "male virgins are mocked" mentality is still strong today, so emulated the male virginity mentality instead the female one despite being a girl.

I didn't tell the guy that I lost my virginity to that I was a virgin. But I think he got the message when my hymen bled all over his dick. He later had to stop because I was too uncomfortable. A couple months later, I got involved with another guy who clearly didn't give a shit that I was uncomfortable during sex, which ended up scaring me. With a combination of that, my childhood, and my anxiety, I haven't had sex in 4 years. At this point, I'm almost like "Fuck it" and just go on Tinder to find someone to have sex with. I will admit that society values plays a role in wanting to end my dry spell. But there are times where I don't really feel the need for sex (Celexa does that to you). Plus my insecurities come out, like the thought of someone seeing me naked. I don't know really.

To me sex is a material barrier between me and the spirit world.
I've thought about possibly becoming a monk, and that would require celibacy, but if I had the chance to have sex with a consenting partner, I would.
