I liked Chimera Squad. 🙂 Writing was utterly atrocious but for some reason I found that charming. Gameplay was buggy. I don't think I would have enjoyed it had I played xcom 2 first, however.
I liked it too though it was a little on the easy side. I saw Chimera Squad as a way to get new players into the series since it was a lot cheaper and less complicated.

Some more mini reviews:

Monsters Are Coming - new game and cheap. Cross between tower defense and mob fighter where you try and build up and defend your castle as it moves across the map. It's got meta-progression where you use points from previous runs to build up your stats. Not usually my cup of tea but I've sunk some hours into it it's not bad.

Jump King Quest - I don't think I can get into this, it's too punishing with not a lot of upside I can see. You talk to characters and then jump and hope you accidentally do it right.

Blazing Chrome - Probably the best of the Contra clones. Nice vibes and it's not too tough.

Owlboy - Side scroller with nice pixel art. Hard miss - boring story and gameplay.

Ghosts n Goblins Ressurection - somehow this has controls even shittier and more sticky than the 8-bit original. They got rid of the thing they should have kept - the pixel art - and kept the clunky gameplay they should have updated.

Faith - This is really niche. An 8-bit computer style screen by screen horror game with occasional "digitized" sound effects like the old C64. It actually manages to be unsettling at times despite the primitive presentation. Kinda like it.

Age of Barbarian - another niche title. A hack n slash in the style of 90s Amiga titles with rasterized actors for sprites. Also tits. Shoulda polished up the clunky Amiga controls though.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance - went for an illustrated animation style instead of pixel art and it looks really good. But the gameplay is the thing. The combat is super fun, a cut above most retro titles.

I'm having a hell of a time finding a game to really just lose myself in and enjoy. Gaming is kind of starting to feel kinda like work getting through the backlog which blows ass. Can't tell if it's just an age thing or I'm just depressed or something. Shit sucks.
You may need a break, watch some old movies or something see if that's your speed, I go in phases personally.

If you want a a simple game reccomendation, try bug fables. Its a safe bet and more people need to play it.

I stumbled across a post on the Steamdeck subreddit that sort of changed my view on my "backlog".

Basically just treat it like a library of games and play whatever you feel like rather than trying to play everything. You'll never get to play everything any more than you'd manage to read every book in an actual library.

I've found that having Gamepass, PS+, free Epic Games Store stuff and a bunch of Steam stuff picked up for next to nothing in sales and bundles has given me access to more games than I can ever realistically finish.

I just pick something and play it and if I don't like it I play something else. I'm never going to get to play everything I own/have access to and that's fine.

Well, new 007 game, as a game, is very, very meh at best. Combat is some level of clunky I can't even call dated because its just ass.

Guns aren't even remotely fun to use. You cant hip shoot and aiming down sights narrows your FOV and slows down aiming way too much. Snap out of aiming and forget about this game's mechanic by hitting attack button a little early and you start throwing hand instead of lead while the enemy lights the absolute shit out of you.

Driving, that no Bond game should be without - is extra clunky as well.

This feels like it should've been Telltale title that ended up being not, than a modern Bond FPS made by the same studio as Hitman titles. And they want $70 for it to boot....

I'll always say - Terraria. It has that charm and art style, both plenty to do and plenty to kill time with, and plethora of fun difficulties that can radically alter your approach to it.

Are you doing the sneedful and avoiding the gayslop chuddies?

RPGs of all kinds are my usual fare, but I play most genres outside of fighting, racing, sports.
If you have PlayStation Plus or Gamepass, go play something you would never usually consider playing, or that you bounced off of in the past.

I tried Just Cause 2 on launch when a friend bought it and brought it over, hated it. Got bored between contracts and needed to find something to play, so I gave it another shot and found something I really enjoyed.

I don't mind gay characters if they are written by actual gay people.

It's pretty easy to tell if this is the case vs. a box-ticking exercise by some woke dipshit who will have the characters constantly remind you that they are gay.

Isn't the new Bond game just a Hitman reskin with James Bond Jr. in place of Agent 69 or whatever that bald fucker is called?

The same way their Star Wars game was just Assassin's Creed with ewoks or whatever.
Just plays worse considering it's supposed to be a Bond game WITH gunfights and epic vehicle chases as main elements....

Played the demo for About Fishing, made by the Arctic Eggs devs, and I loved it. It's absurd humor stuffed in a PS1 fishing game and wrapped in a Deadly Premonition vibe. Won't spoil it but you play a girl solving a mystery. Oh and two words: Curly fries.

I also checked out that 1666 game's demo and it's hard to describe. Best I can come up with is if Ragnar Tornquist made a witch game with Vampire Diaries aesthetic?

Whilst doing my traditional slog through game pass slop ive just complete aphelion, possibly one of the shittest and most frustrating games ive ever endured.

The game controls like treacle, you have to cope with endless horrible cutscenes with uggo characters that suck, many!

The story is a retarded "corpos bad, humans suck" dirge. There's no arc to the story at all its just misery, the characters have no chemistry or charisma and the writing is wooden.

And the controls are fucking horrific.

My playtime would be cut in half if there werent asscreed1 tier jumps into oblivion when traversing walls, random glitches into noisy bits of terrain when 'stealth' or rope swinging like a retard because orienting yourself on a rope is apparently down to juju. Basically anything that requires a B press on your controller has a 50% chance of behaving as you expect.

Also mechanics , getting one-shotted by a lightning bolt wuth no warm up, stealth bits that go into run bits with no cue to change.

Literal shit. As you probably guessed.

More game pass game slop coming your way

E2a: will I 100%? No
