Victor Mignogna v. Funimation Productions, LLC, et al. (2019) - Vic's lawsuit against Funimation, VAs, and others, for over a million dollars.

What cost do you think Vic will have paid for these victories if they come to pass? I don’t think it can be quantified but am curious how someone who takes the “no-brainer, it will all have been worth it” stance of certainty thinks about the cost/benefit analysis here.
One cannot apply this to an intangible. Put simply, him putting this out there and fighting it ensured that people understood his side of the story, and ensured his reputation was kept from total annihilation. Had he done nothing, they would be free to continue to run his name through the mud unopposed and any con considering having him would stop immediately as all that would have been known is "Vic is a Pedophile".

Instead, by fighting it, he ensured that cons will have heard that he A: Disputes it heavily and B: That the people claiming it showed no evidence in court.

That being said, it would be better if he wins, since then he can use that win as justification. Where as a loss means a lot of cons on the fence can point to it and refuse him Still better to have tried and failed than done nothing though, since a Pyrrhic victory is better than total defeat, if only narrowly.

Right now the lawsuit is costing Vic very little in terms of money/career, emotionally is something only Vic could answer but I think it's probably draining at times.

100% the defendants would still be defaming him and his con invitations dry up, those depositions definitely helped with his con invites.

He's potentially on the hook for almost a quarter million. I wouldn't call that very little

Seriously? Four more weeks?

That'd be ok if the brief they are going to end up filing would turn out to be one hell of a bulletproof document. But I have a feeling it's not going to be that way. Kinda worried they'll file a very lackluster and unpolished brief, even after two extensions.
Isn't MoRon's cross-appeal just them whining about being awarded less than half of their legal fees?
If so, then it's safe to say that it will be an exceptional brief.

Appellant's second request for extension is confirmed for today. I know Nick tweeted out that he believed it was today.

Watch them fuck it up, have missing citations and page numbers, half of it in spick, rest in hill billy, and chink. While being late and gay.
I'm going to give some unsolicited advice that many people in this thread probably should heed, if this waiting is causing you distress get off the computer and go do something productive and or distracting.

Examples, plant a small vegetable garden (potatoes are a beautiful plant and easier to grow than a damn cactus), go do 20 push ups, sit ups and squats (or 5 or 10 depending on how bad your fitness is), go read a good book (His Strange Materials is one I need to re-read) or go make something elaborate and delicious to eat (I would go with anything Italian pasta or pizza being the first options).

The only people that should be stressing about this filing should be the lawyers, so just chill goddamn it. Or panic if that is your kink, I don't judge.

Documents now available. MoRon's Unopposed Motion to Retain Appeal and to Enlarge Time to File Opening Brief and Response to Appellant’s Opening Brief and the court's order granting the motion. MoRon's brief is now due on Thursday, March 19, 2020.

Edit: This is MoRon's motion.
Hmm. Saying they "never intended to abandon their appeal. Rather, they intended to file all briefs simultaneously" isn't really admitting to anything, but between the lines does indeed appear to be, "We were stupid, and thought plaintiff getting an extension meant we were getting one, too."

Apt quotation. It reminds me an awful lot of every fucking divorce I’ve seen friends go through. Almost all of them have admitted that the legal aspects were so brutal that at several points they’d wished they’d never initiated or agreed to a divorce and had just made shit work somehow. I guess that’s what I keep wondering about Vic — if this could ever possibly be worth it for him at this point. Because my God, he’s been through some hideous shit here that I suspect he did not see coming or expect to come from this lawsuit.

As with divorce, the only real winners I see emerging here are the lawyers.
I might well be wrong, but I've gotten the impression that Vic has been insulated from a lot of the process so far. He trusts BHBC to do what needs to be done, and gets on with his life for the most part. Not to say he doesn't know any of what's happening, of course, nor that he doesn't worry about it to some extent. And it's obvious the social aspects of this whole fiasco have taken a toll on him.

This will probably change, assuming the case comes back on appeal. But until then... well, I hope he just enjoys life before then with as few worries as possible.

You would have to boycott Sony and Time Warner. Imagine if someone told Sony "I'm not buying a PS 5 because of Funimations bullshit." A 500 dollar console would sit on the shelf because some VA's got jealous.
Said person would first have to be aware that Funi is a subsidiary, and then put their moral disdain above their desire for the product. If a win gets wide media coverage, the awareness will certainly go up, at least. Not sure how common the other aspect would be.

I assume you mean an intangible cost. Certainly one can quantify a tangible cost, which includes legal fees. A lot of that is being paid by the GFM donations, but I suspect he may still end up paying some of those fees himself. There is the threat of having to pay large amounts of legal fees and sanctions to the other side, but that's not realized at this time.

those depositions definitely helped with his con invites.
And the best part about that is, the defendants pretty much handed them to him! They could have used the TCPA as intended and shut down discovery almost immediately. But their own pathological need to slag him as much as possible fucked them over. The only things they got out of the affair were a depo from Vic that will probably inspire sympathy in most who see it and higher legal costs, while having to give two of their own depos, at least one of which does not look good at all.

It's almost like Nick was right again. There is really no way to move for an extension for a motion, after the court mails you to ask "hey dude where's this shit you were supposed to file two weeks ago" other than "we were stupid." To their credit, they worded it as well as you can word that.

Is it weird to ask for a 1-day extension? I don't know how law practice works so that doesn't make sense to me. If something is almost done but only needs a few more hours, it can be finished on time if people work overtime so you don't have to request an extension. If the stuff can't be finished with a little bit of overtime then they shouldn't ask for an extra day, they should ask for an extra week.

That short extension makes me more nervous than if they had asked for an extra week, or if their first extension asked for an extra month in the first place. That I would understand.

Most likely, MoRon's side asked for them to not oppose a longer extension. BHBC decided they would not, but asked for one last day to just really polish it up.

Man I want to read it. It’s fun, and I’m booooored.

No stress, just bored. Too many delays.
This shit is fun to go through at work. Doing exercise in IT is silly, that’s for after work.

Any deviation from the rules requires a motion, even if it's just pro forma bullshit.

I'm not stressed, I'm bored and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from lavck of drama. That and having a dozen staples in my pelvic region, bed-bounding me doesn't help my boredom
