once I made the mistake of putting this piece on my phone's playlist, and playing it while commuting on a freezing December morning (with earbuds, of course; I'm not a complete savage)
I switched it over within 2 minutes - I like this kind of dark-ambient music, but that was definitely not the time or the place for it
on the phone I had several other long slow pieces that kept me relaxed during that commute; this one did the job better
 
and on the subject of dark ambient, there's this
(don't be fooled by the first two minutes; it eases you into it with relative normality then drops you into the deep end)
 
It’s not as long as some of the tracks here but this King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard song is 18 minutes long.
 
This isn't even the longest Flaming Lips song, the longest one they have goes for a day and it had to be streamed because the file was so big.

 
A long vocal (as opposed to purely instrumental) masterpiece is "Der Abschied" ("The Farewell"), the last movement of Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde.
