Some redditor's steam machine allegedly died after 20 minutes of use giving a failed GPU error.

It's Reddit so take with a grain of salt but very unfortunate if true. Given the sign up wait list and pre orders wonder if he will get a replacement in a reasonable timeframe.

If the prices didnt kill the Steam Machine, the Gabecube equivalent of RROD definitely will.

Yeh I got flashbacks to RROD and having to replace my 360 four times.

Now that I think about it, didn't the 360 come out 20 years ago almost to the day? Would be very funny if the red light demon was reborn in the steam machine.

If the pricing wasn't bad enough, if it turns out there is a factory defect in any kind of significant quantity of units this will be an absolute disaster of a launch.

I just saw another report of the RLOD. I also had to replace my 360 multiple times and am having flashbacks. Here we go again.

EDIT: It's the same report from Reddit forums. We will see if this issue is widespread or just Redditors hyperventilating. Mark me late if this is gay and retarded.

The 360 also had an ATI Radeon GPU if I remember right. Its like pottery, it rhymes.
Correct, Xenos was part of the same family as the HD2xxx series. I always thought RROD was part of the whole bump/underfill issue that affected the 8 series Nvidia too.

Hopefully it’s just redditors being retarded and not a real issue. Would be a right fucker it is a problem since the first thing I’m doing with mine is taking it to bits and upgrading the ram/nvme.

The legion go (aka discount steam deck) also had a bunch of problems if your machine was manufactured after october of last year, would be pretty funny if something similar is happening.

With how hard AI fucked the steam machine's price, with this shit covered cherry on top of that if this becomes a more widespread issue rather than a single person's bad luck I can see Valve getting sued.

Valve will replace your hardware for very little reason for free, why is this thread such full of retards as of late
When the Deck was first rolling out ages ago there were issues with a bunch of people who had bought the 512 Gb model where the screen delaminated very quickly, like straight out of the box I think.

Steam replaced every one of the defective units almost immediately. The reports started coming out in Q2, and by the time I got my deck at the very start of Q3 everyone who had that issue had received replacements. And those of us later in the list didn’t experience a delay because of it.

This thread is full of retards because it’s human nature to be tribal. Any one driving faster than you is a reckless retard, anyone driving slower than you is a sluggish retard.

Based. The "have you tried turning it on and off" IT advice literally never fails and is the solution to 90% of all computer problems.
To be fair, the bit about clicking the button on a specific color to enter a specific mode is a little beyond the standard power cycling question. I wonder what the other colors are / what the user might accidentally enable if they're just winging it.

Good thing there was some logical fork at the end too; if it didn't go into some equivalent of booting the bias, I was going to feel old over how precisely they need to document the "turn it off and on again" instructions nowadays.

:story:

This is bad regardless of how much you cope for valve. They delayed this piece of shit and it's already over.

I don't get how shit like red ring of death could even exist. It's so shitty it's unfathomable. My fucking mother's n64 works out of the storage crate I tossed it in. I can probably toss the brick and controllers around a bit and it'll still work as new.

I've been hearing they added a setting to fix the auto gyro calibration issue on steam controller

Its in beta client.

So the minor software problem with it is basically fixed
I've been experimenting with it and there's this youtube channel called Flick stick and his gyro content is pretty good, as someone who never really used gyro prior (still haven't really) the grip sense for turning off the gyro to reset your hands was so intuitive, props to valve for that. I still haven't found a good way to get gyro working properly in Switch and PS4 emulation. I don't think either of them have SDL3, and which from my understanding does have that native gyro input as an option. My work around so far has been to use SC2DSU which is just a cemuhook dsu server that plugs into Eden for gyro info, but that software issue that's supposed to be fixed in the beta makes it feel terrible, so maybe it'll be a fixed issue with it but honestly I think just going SDL3 and running via steam would be the silver bullet to gyro in emulation.

Speaking of gyro it really does seem like the superior option compared to aiming with the right stick, it sucks that so many games don't allow mixed inputs, having to rebind all controller buttons to keybinds IMO Is really clunky and annoying, especially WASD to left stick with overlaps, I still haven't figured out how to do that in a cursory search.

I've found Steam Controller Remapper to be really good for non-Steam game compatibility for the controller. A lot of people recommend SISR but I had some issues with that so ymmv
thanks for the post, I haven't had an issue yet to where I needed either of these but more options are always better, what issues did you have with SISR?
