This is how I know most valve apologists are retarded. One of the biggest cope comments is "but the size tho". Yeh the overall footprint is small but its a fucking cube. You can get all sorts of furniture but traditionally your home media centre is made for long and narrow rectangular boxes - consoles, sound systems etc.

Also I don't think anyone in this thread is acting as if the form factor is reinventing the wheel. They WERE SAYING its compact for what it is, which is true, since any alternative would need several dongles to do roughly the same thing, from everything I've seen.
Is it overpriced for what it is? Sure. Is this valve being greedy jews? I don't think so, given the ram market and their old plans. Is it worth the money? For 95% of the population probably not. But ffs make your complaints decent. Complain about equivalent price, complain how they switched to "up to 4k", complain how it's less powerful than a PS5. Because complaining its a square while your shelf is rectangular is stupid and I'm tired of being a valve enjoyer who also needs to tell you how to properly rip on it.

Although if you just need to watch shows and movies you can set up a plex/jellyfin server for super cheap on a libre roc renegade with an hdd and if you just need to game in your living room you can even stay in the Valve ecosystem and use Steam Link on a raspberry pi. Then you dont even need to worry about the second set of hardware. Unlike the mini pc both of these can hide in your TV cabinet at the same time.
(Although in the case of the greentext i’d still just pay for netflix while i knew i’d be bringing women over because it tricks them into thinking you’re some normal guy who doesnt know what a linux is.)

Thanks for the info. As for the greentext, I really didn't pay much attention to it, but now that I think about it, it would probably best to just bring up a stream from one of the various sites that stream movies for free, rather than having to pay money to pedoflix, honestly.
My recommendation for small PCs is usually an ex-corporate machine from Lenovo/Dell/HP like these. I had one with a Ryzen APU as my living room PC for a long time and it worked great for media and light gaming. I built a SFF box to replace it and turned the mini PC into a Jellyfin server to stream media in my home.
They are quite expensive new but being business machines the prior gen models tend to flood the market at good prices when businesses renew their PC fleet. Compared to the steam machine they are microscopic and are about the size of a paperback book. Don't know about the current batch but I know lenovo released models with a dedicated single slot GPU in the past which is pretty insane for a PC with a total volume of 1L.
