I hope third time's the charm (animation-wise, should we even count live-action?). Gyo was meh since ufotable did some weird things to it, and Studio Deen being the fuck-ups they are fucked up the Junji Ito Collection last year, plus the Tomie specials. Doesn't look like Studio Deen was involved with this, at the very least, although interesting choice they're sticking with black-and-white. Probably will be for the better.

There was a short anime series a few years ago that was an affectionate parody/shout-out to anime of old, Kurayami Santa.

I never did see the Gyo anime, what was supposed to be wrong with it?

You know what's weird? In the trailer, they never announce who is going to dub this anime. So what if......

OH SHIT! I realize something? This trailer came out a day after the Funimation leaks and Funimation right now is in damage control over their dirty movies and if I think this anime is gonna be dubbed by Funimation. That would be very bad for this anime. Like I don't wanna listen to Piccolo's voice moaning while scary music plays in the background. So unless Adult Swim used their magic marker to remove Funimation's name in the credits? It would have been very poor timing on their part.

wasn't it hot garbage like that adaptation of his series of short stories? Like the animation didn't add anything and looked worse than the original panels? Ito has this imperceptible ability to transcribe his madness onto paper, but it seems as though there hasn't been an adaptation that's worthy of him. Much like Berserk, no medium has really compared to the original.

Shit I can tell they don't have faith because the trailer straight-up takes panels from the manga and moves them around. I wanna be cautiously optimistic, but that's a bad way to represent it if they're not going that route.

I didn’t watch the live action version but the manga is great. Granted, the Gyo OVA was god-awful and the anime had some really shit animation, but this could be good. We’ll see.

I think losing Family Guy to FXX was the best thing to happened to Adult Swim.

I mean holy shit they're actually trying to make good shows now.

It's just the newer seasons of Family Guy. Oh wait, I just saw this:

Reruns of Family Guy have been on Adult Swim (and its sister channel TBS) since 2003 and are set to expire in 2021, due to the Disney aquisition of 20th Century Fox.

For those of you familiar with the manga...

What the heck was up with the mysterious city below the town?
I figured that was related to the unknowable forces doing everything.
Showed the teaser to a pal who knows the comics, kept the title secret. He marked out for it.

It's rare but it does seem like some things simply work best as manga and can't really be successfully adapted into anime.

Ito's work may be one of them, but it remains to be seen with this.

And it seems to be an indication to me that, dare I be so bold? Anime and manga is cool again?

I just remembered James Gunn was a big fan of this and he said it was a big influence on Slither.

Its allegedly going to be only 4 episodes. Are we talking about 4, 25 minute episodes? For a fucking 648 page manga that doesn't seem like a lot.

EDIT:
Are they going to Akira this shit while cramming the source material into such a condensed format its going to be largely incomprehensible?

It looks really cool. I will definitely watch it

They've aired Hellsing: Ultimate, so they're no strangers to hour-long shows/OVAs/what have you. Though I agree cramming all that into a little under two hours is nuts, unless there's insane amounts of distillation.

I'm cautious, but eager. I'm a huge fan of Ito's work and the trailer looks like they'll do Uzumaki more justice than the live action movie did. Soundtrack for the trailer's on point as well - it's the sort of thing I'd use for a story as strange as Uzumaki.

I'll be keeping an eye out for this one, I think.

Inb4 they censor the chapter about the newborn babies.
