I don't think they could've, without walking back on narratives that they invested their entire fortunes and reputations into protecting.

Even hinting that the vaccines were rushed and flawed would question why they locked down the country for an entire year and ostracized anyone who didn't trust the shot.
Hinting that he was bowing to media pressure would conclude that the media has control over politics that it shouldn't have.
Saying that Trump had zero control over the government would reveal that the Democrats and rinos have done everything they could to blockade him.

The narrative of lies caused them to walk a tightrope where slipping could've doomed them sooner then it did.
