Nice case, point out that we used to make things run fine - great even - by paying people an honest wage for doing basic work. And yes, going back to paying Americans an actual livable wage for picking cotton, as well as making rent and other necessities affordable on that "living wage", will be incredibly tumultuous. But the current situation isn't sustainable, and if you want to shrink the gap between the common folk and the rich CEOs then job #1 is removing the ability to hire illegal slave labor to work your shit vs. the common man. And spoiler, the point of the tariffs isn't to make other countries pay us a fuck ton - although some will - it's to stop it being preferable to outsource labor from American companies.

If you just want to shut him up, frame it as a way to force big business to pay their fair share and stick it to billionaires, point out how much it'll mess with Jeff Bezos. Then if he keeps talking just repeat various ways to phrase "it's weird how you keep defending slave labor like that" until he walks away.

McCain at least had a near-20 year history of running successful political campaigns before he tried for the presidency. I doubt the Democrats are going to learn anything from this because Trump is their perfect excuse for everything. a lot of industries in the US are only as cheap as they are because we're using slave labor at home, right now, in the form of illegals. they're stacked 15 to a house or some of them are even in what's basically slave housing. they work gruelling days for almost no pay, no safety, no rights. they are not innocent either, bringing crime and drugs and child sex trafficking

this is how all elites in all countries expect everyone who isn't one of them to live. they want to lower your quality of life to augment theirs. tariffs that force americans to do business in america with americans help protect us from from lowering our quality of life to be "competitive" globally. they force exploitative people with consolidated power and money to pay their fair share for living in nice places and having nice stuff
