What the fuck could POSSIBLY be offensive at telling people from other countries to learn the fucking language (in this case, English)? It's one thing if you're visiting, but if you're going to become a part of the culture and people, then it SHOULD be a requirement.

the stability of politics in the US after ~WW2 is a bit of an exception to the rule. the 19th century and pre-WW2 era was wild. you had senators nearly beating each other to death with canes, congressmen carrying pistols in chamber, the whole bleeding kansas thing, a civil war that killed ~1,000,000 citizens, the corruption of the grant administration, the debate about a silver or gold standard which got nasty, the mess that was reconstruction, the first red "scare", the battle of blair mountain (in which the US army air corp dropped bombs and chemical weapons on US citizens), the bonus army (worst than jan 6 by a mile) just to name a few. plus the thousands of bombings a year in the 1970s.

My own state of kentucky nearly had a civil war in 1900. If the state GOP had not assassinated the DNC governor-elect it would have come to blows. there were two state governments, two national guards plus roving bands of "militias" which were barely more than bandits.

we are seeing a return to the norm. its just more visible now that TV and the internet exists.

That’s what makes American leftism so interesting, they don’t build anything, and they have no permanent symbols or beliefs. The closest thing to a rallying flag I can think of is a pride flag, and they fight over that constantly too. They already tear down all their heroes once they’re no longer useful. Speaking of civil rights: look at how they’re attacking MLK’s or Obama’s legacy.
