Someone earlier in the thread suggested you can only be pardoned if you are found guilty / admit guilt...
Which leads into "Someone guilty of X Y or Z can't run for president."
Ergo if they pardon Trump for X Y or Z, then he's also GUILTY of X Y or Z, which means he can't run in 2024 and retroactively was never president in 2016.

Yeah, that was me. And it wasn't a suggestion, it is fact. The notion of the Left wanting to prosecute Orange-Hitler only to pardon him is absolutely exceptional. It would be just like Comey's Hillary Clinton "investigation" (and yes I'm aware he recently suggested pardoning Trump), where no one is satisfied with the outcome of the situation but everyone manages to get on their faces simply for participating in the farce, but worse in this case because then that opens the door to prosecuting those out of office.

A conviction or confession isn't required. Carter pardoned all the draft dodgers and Ford pardoned Nixon.
But a President could offer a pardon contingent on a confession, if they wanted to. They could make it contingent on a campaign donation or a blow job if they wanted to. Trump would just write a rude letter in response to any such offers.
