We're at the Caesar phase of the Empire. If you want to get anything done, you need an autocrat. The Senate and House should either be disbanded or treated like a vestigial organ, and the Judiciary should be purged, Bukele style. Not gonna happen, of course, but that's what it would take.

It's sad, because Trump was positioned perfectly to do that. His opposition had even paved the way for it by calling him a fascist dictator/Caesar for years and using the system to go after him in an obvious abuse of power. All of the institutions had utterly worn out their legitimacy under COVID. But, being a Boomer, he went the Gorbachev route instead, trying to save a system that's already showed itself to be completely illegitimate. Kavanaugh did something similar in the Tariff case where he had a segment that said "Yeah this can't be done like this, but here is how you can do it."
