- The vehicle's price was negotiated on contract in advance before I travelled to make the purchase, to be paid in cash in full, no financing. I was already getting a good deal -- I'm well aware of what the vehicle's real worth was and still paid well below it. No car is "worth" its sticker price, which is why you don't even entertain it as a data point during negotiation. This wasn't my first car purchase, champ.
- The financing office thought they'd get a slice of interest (and I'm sure the manufacturer gives them incentives to pitch it) by offering to rebate an extra $2k at the point of sale if I was willing to finance $6k of the purchase, with no early payment penalty. As I said, I paid it off eight days after getting home w/the new car, having paid $0.07 in interest. Literal free money. The dealer probably did make a bit of scratch on that... at the lender's/manufacturer's expense, not mine.
- I don't have a "stupid ass start/stop feature" either. Plug-in hybrids don't do that. At least not this one. It can move at 95 MPH solely on battery power; "on-demand" engine startup happens when the battery runs out or you floor it in [PWR] mode and shutdown happens automatically regardless of vehicle speed based on usage and current requirements.

This is my favorite argument from people who hate any car manufactured later than 1970. My favorite counter-argument is the longevity of not only my own modern vehicles (the 2010 I traded in for this car lasted 12 years with zero mechanical failures, no error codes, no unexpected shutdowns or faults, no repairs of any kind, and both its own and third-party diagnostics showed good system health and the battery pack's lifespan still over 50%). It really burns "certain people" up that some manufacturers can actually do "complex systems" correctly and reliably, to produce long-term reliable vehicles.
