You're probably thinking of green cheese.

In all seriousness, though, you're thinking of helium 3, not tritium. There's no existing application for He-3 that would justify getting it from the Moon and there's no existing process for getting it. Claims that it provides an economic justification for lunar activity is wishful thinking balanced on the nose of exaggeration riding the unicycle of ignorance.

The only plausible medium term economic justification for going to the moon involves creating an absolutely massive amount of infrastructure there to refine raw materials and send them into Earth orbit via mass drivers for orbital manufacturing. That would require a lot of engineering but it's at least built around well understood physical processes and doesn't require any "and then a miracle happens" steps, let alone two or three.
The main justification I could see beyond that is millitary. The moon serves as a useful launch or refueling point for missions further out in our solar system. If we could rig up a mass driver to launch shuttles it would save a lot of fuel similar to an aircraft carrier launch.

But the more important thing is it is the quintessential high ground for earth orbit. Holding it can be used to prevent any of our enemies from launching unapproved missions into our solar system.
