This applies universally, too. It's particularly effective in IT (which is why you don't experiment or test on production systems -- always use a copy or a "staging" system first). Just get something working? Is it a complex system? Think it's bulletproof? Sweet. Now break the living shit out of it and see how it fails. Make it stronger. Break it again, and fix what fails. Keep breaking it until you can't without straight-up cheating (unplugging cables, deleting important deployment files/binaries, nuking cloud instances during active testing, etc.) and observe how it breaks, so you know how it will fail in production if something vicious happens to it.
Nothing stays in the news cycle permanently, that's how it works. But people noooootice, people remember, their feelings get nudged and vibes changed. I was crying tears of joy when I watched Obama get inaugurated and now I'm posting here. I can tell you first hand how that change happens, it does so subtly over time with things like this and seeing the discussion around them, who takes sides with who, what logical fallacies are, and who gets mad at what and why. People won't say it but they think it.
