But if we're going to allow Vance to change his mind and decide Trump's ideas have overall been a net positive, then I believe Massie deserves the benefit of the doubt for similar changes. You are overestimating the "Median swing state voter who casts the tiebreaking ballot". The true "Tiebreaker" is someone who does not consume newsmedia and stays at home. They are not tied to a party and have no views on what is good or bad, they simply go with the flow.

Have you ever been attacked by a swan? While fishing, if you place your rod on your head, they will be convinced you are a 10-15ft tall monster because of the way they judge size. Similarly, if a pleb sees an attractive person using buzzwords that mean nothing, they will vote for them over the unattractive or "mid" person who uses valid rationale to prove their point. Hence, if the population of "decideds" were equal (Thankfully, it is not), Vance would lose to Newsom since Vance is worse looking and has a bad habit of making valid and rational arguments designed to be understood, rather than loudly saying buzzwords while looking good.
Remember, these "people" do not actually understand what is being said, they just want to feel like that person is worthy of leading them.
