Not to disagree, though I must ask: if a word is so entwined within a specific event, doesn’t that effectively make the word and event one and the same?

You may be right by analysis/definition, but in the scope of politics/rhetoric, it’s effectively irrelevant. That irrelevance—might I add—is held not only by those receptive (as well as unreceptive) to said usage of the word, but also by those utilizing it for their own benefit.

He's a former military guy. I hesitate to call him a vet because he never deployed. He made it through basic training, got a hernia, and has been mooching off the government ever since. He gets about $4,000 per month in disability because he's going to school and it pays for literally everything. However due to his hernia, he's going to continuously collect these checks from the VA for the rest of his life. He's not a veteran. He's never seen combat. He never deployed. He barely finished basic before this happened. He's spent no less than $10,000 worth of taxpayer dollars on Warhammer figurines. At least another $5,000 on MTG cards. And at least $3000 on bad Star Wars tattoos (no I'm not kidding). The rest went into renting his home and motorcycles. He contributes nothing to society (yet) and while he may have an actually beneficial job someday in the future, the past years since leaving the army he's been nothing but a useless eater mooching off this system.

However, you'll still be paying him for the rest of your lives. He has entire armies of Warhammer figurines completely funded by US tax payer dollars. Happy Early Veterans Day!

This is nonsense though. The Shoe Museums around the country focus on only one group. To say anything other than that is preposterous and you are straight lying if you peddle anything different.

the reality is that for all the shitty "holocaust education" classes people are forced to go through, they never end up learning anything about the holocaust other than concentration camps. If a Jew escapes Nazi occupied territory, they are by definition a holocaust survivor.

Don't know what museums you're going to, Yad Vashem and other holocaust museums are very clear other groups were targeted. Jews were the primary target and the goal was to wipe out all Jews but other minorities like the gypsies, homosexuals, etc, were very clearly targeted.

I think the rules have changed a lot in the near 20 years since I left the army. However just to summarize this dude's situation he got medboarded for a hernia. This all but guaranteed he got 50% disability or so. Which is like $1k a month. I used the GI Bill to fully cover my education so I never owed a single dollar in student loans.

Anyone who serves the 4 year mark gets the full GI Bill as it is defined today. If you got medboarded when I was in you didn't automatically get 100% of the GI Bill but that seems to be different now just on the context here. Part of that is that in addition to paying your tuition you get a stipend per month to survive on. When I was getting mine it was like $1200 a month. I lived in a shitbox house off campus with 5 other guys for $200 a month. It was great.

That being said he would need to be in a higher cost of living area but that money stops when he finishes school. If he does at all then its back to $1k a month or whatever.

Traffic laws are the ultimate casual filter for illegal immigrants. There are so many laws on the books that a cop can pull you over for almost any reason and the vast amount of illegals don't know how to drive. Hell a lot of the news stories of people getting deported involves them driving and doing something that gets law enforcement's attention like speeding, trying to enter a restricted area or running a red light. So even if ICE wasn't actively hunting these people down, traffic enforcement will stumble across them on a regular basis and once the cop asks for identification the jig is up. Now that I mention it, didn't a lot of liberal states dial back their traffic enforcement policies to the point they are borderline not enforced? I wonder if any immigration lobbies had a part in that?

Might've been a side benefit and highly likely, but the original reason was because when blacks would get pulled over for a traffic stop they wouldn't stop, having a jogger moment and causing the situation to escalate and getting shot. Also because they tended to get pulled over more often.
