What agreeable middle ground? Most Americans want them out. There’s no middle ground. We’re not allowing joint custody or visitation rights here. If you enter the U.S. illegally, you are banned from entering.

The agreeable middle ground would likely be to make the system easier/quicker to get through for legitimate migrants (because a decade or longer to get through is a bit asinine), but also remove everyone who is currently here illegally, forcing them to go through the system. This would include a no tolerance policy for violating the process moving forward.
