TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — As Pride Month celebrations take place across the country, Gov. Ron DeSantis has designated June as “Faith and Family Month” in Florida, highlighting religious faith, traditional family structures and fatherhood as pillars of strong communities.
In a proclamation signed Monday, DeSantis said faith provides “strength, hope, and moral guidance” and described the family unit as the foundation of a healthy society. The declaration encourages Floridians, churches, faith-based organizations and community groups to celebrate and support families throughout June.
The proclamation comes during Pride Month, an annual observance during which LGBTQ Americans celebrate their identities and sexuality through public events, parades and community gatherings. These gatherings and events often face scrutiny from those who have prioritized faith, family and religious liberty initiatives while opposing progressive social policies.
The governor’s proclamation states that Christian faith played a vital role in shaping the nation’s institutions and that families who practice their faith and spend meaningful time together are more likely to contribute to safer and stronger communities.
“Families who actively practice their faith and spend meaningful time together are shown to be less likely to experience abuse, addiction, fatherlessness, or family instability, and are more likely to contribute to safer, stronger, and more productive communities,” the proclamation states.
The document also highlights the role of fathers, describing fatherhood as an “influential and irreplaceable” institution that helps shape children’s emotional, spiritual and social well-being.
DeSantis formally proclaimed June 2026 as Faith and Family Month and called on residents to honor fathers, support families and participate in community activities centered on those values.
The proclamation was welcomed by Anastasios Kamoutsas, who praised the designation in a post on X.
Quoting Joshua 24:15, Kamoutsas wrote that families who share their faith and spend time together help build stronger communities.
“Thank you, Gov. Ron DeSantis, for proclaiming June as Faith and Family month, recognizing the vital role faith and family play in the lives of Floridians and in the strength of our state,” Kamoutsas wrote.
