I'm not sure if the specifics of the case, but it was tried and ended in a 7-5 hung Jury mistrial. The options then are to drop the charges, try again, it work out a in plea. Most likely, there wasn't a good case considering it's a child abuse case that got a hung Jury and they'd likely see the same result if tried again. Instead they got him to plead on a charge, so it's on his record at least. No Sex Offender registry but that was probably unacceptable to the guy, and might of resulted in wasting a bunch of money failing to try him again.
Looking into it a bit more, it seems like the case was kinda fucked up by the police, the local prosecutor bailed on it, and Paxton was picking up pieces. Oh and the accuser refused to testify against him in a second trial, after having to recant parts of his testimony on the stand(admit they weren't true). So yeah, Paxton has nothing to work with and it was let him walk, get a plea, or try him with out the testimony of the victim(letting him walk while wasting a bunch of money).
Sucks, guy sounds like he's guilty, but we have a legal system designed to protect the innocent, and that means sometimes guilty people go free. Paxton not able to make a Entree out of a piece of shit and two slices of bread isn't really a mark against him.

US Senate: John Cornyn vs Ken Paxton
Cornyn is best buddies with current RINO in chief Senate Majority Leader John "Lil Mitch" Thune. In the first run, Cornyn beat Paxton by a point and a half. However third place got 14% and endorsed Paxton, as well as a late endorsement from Trump giving him an edge. Polling is showing him up, and the betting market overwhelmingly favors Paxton.
Paxton made a name for himself challenging the 2020 election to the Supreme Court on behalf of the entire State. RINOs fucking hate him and tried to impeach him, but failed.

This is actually a Democratic run off, but it's actually fun because it's two incumbents fighting over a seat after their districts became uncompetitive. What's really fun is that one of them is 11 term(22 fucking years) sitting Representative Al "Cane Nigger" Green. Known for making scenes, chimping out, and generally niggerish behavior.
Last seen getting thrown out of the State of the Union, he is favored to be thrown out of Congress for failing to carpet bag another district.
