I would not trade my access to American Healthcare for anything. It's invaluable to people looking to take charge of their own health and not just be stuck with what's "approved" and "safe". Or what government insurance decides you should be able to get.
This was an excellent post exploring US Healthcare. As I work on the Frontline in EMS, I'm overwhelmingly exposed to rampant Medicare and Medicaid fraud. I'm going to just vomit out my last two (bullshit) calls for you people to consider whether or not we actually have a broken system, or if we should be hacking people to death with machetes for a year or two. I am still at work for the next 45 minutes, forgive the aggravation.
Walmart parking lot, 9:30PM. Who the fuck goes to Walmart this late. Illegal family of 4. Mother and father piki no ingli (patients are Spanish speaking.) Minor MVA, in a parking lot. Maybe 10 mph. All 4 patients want ambulance transport to the hospital for made up injuries so they can sue. By the time everything is said and done between the ambulance and the ER there will probably be over $30,000 of medical bills that go completely unpaid. This will be subsidized by car insurance rates skyrocketing because it was a car accident and MVAs bill through that. Good luck to anyone in the area who has Progressive, Guadalupe and Cesar wanted to pull a Russell Greer.
4AM. Regular COPD patient calls. Short of breath. Is smoking on oxygen when I arrive. White trash. Resist urge to suffocate patient. Albuterol neb and transport to local ER. She will be there for several days. She will rack up roughly $100,000 in medical bills. This is the 20th time we've transported this exact wheezing sack of shit in the past calendar year. She is on Medicaid and Medicare. She has cost the taxpayer millions of dollars.
What do we do with these people? They either knowingly abuse the system that they shouldn't even be part of, or are so dumb and self-destructive while also refusing to die. How the fuck are we supposed to bear the weight of the largest generation in human history reaching old age while ALSO supporting the largest welfare leaching immigrant population on the planet?
They all seek emergency care as well, which costs more because it's emergency care, of course. They refuse to wait a few hours at urgent care or see a primary. These same people have the audacity to complain on reddit and act like it's capitalism that's the problem when they're misusing a system that has no ability to say "no." (See EMTALA law)
Is our system really that broken, or do people just want to utilize an overtaxed system to push Marxist ideas? Remember, the left loves to break things so they can "fix" it in a way that leaves them in charge, if not at all fixed.
Well, that took like 15 minutes. I'm gonna go clean out my ambulance and go home. See you after I sleep for a bit kiwis.
