You also have the problem of people not knowing who many local politicians are and what they stand for. Even I had no clue what my local county treasurer and politicians in local offices like that stood for. Luckily most ran unopposed, but I would hate to vote for a swamp creature like Tony Gonzalez by pure accident and ignorance because it's hard to find info on local county elections, but luckily a US rep is high profile enough that you can look up whoever is running. But unlike statewide elections, many local politicians don't even have campaign websites.
Yeah, if Brandon Herrera puts tons of effort into advertising and talking about Tony Gonzales's deadly affair with his mistress and informing the local boomers who vote for the incumbents every year of who Tony Gonzales really is.
