The blockchain is a permanent record of transactions. Buy something illegal with it, that illegal source gets busted, now they can track down every purchaser wallet. There are things like crypto tumblers but I'm not convinced they don't just make the transaction sheet longer to try to obscure things (when sending crypto to a tumbler is already a suspicious move). This is also why there were so many regulations for exchanges to verify identity in case they needed to track transactions for an investigation. Satoshi the Fed has a great ring to it
