Money Update 9/23/2014 - Chris Makes a Kickstarter

He really has a skewed view of the value his Lego sculptures have to other people, remember a few months back when he was listing sets he wanted on Facebook, just in case you wanted to send him some. And such.

Screencaps of the Kickstarter Page and the blueprints.

How soon will that thing get reported and removed?

From what I understand about how KS operates, Chris isn't doing anything against their TOS. He just made a KS that no one should give half a fuck about. Remember, legit KS campaigns fail all the time, and there's been more than one case of someone taking the money and vanishing. The risk is on the backers.

There's no need to get it taken down, because it should fail on its own. The only way it'll be taken down is if he starts posting porn on there or something, and I don't even know if that'll do it.

Am I understanding this correctly?

Fatty wants us to give him money so he can build a Lego version of CwCiville? I don't understand the part where those who chip in get something from this?

Is this just a new form of begging?

The last time I hear about Kickstarter was when folks chipped in money to see a Planescape RPG sequal. They chipped in to get the game started so they could eventually buy and play it. If I chip in $50 bucks for Fatty's project what am I getting in return?

wait what is with those backer rewards

give me money so i can buy you legos and send you them? like is that okay to offer up another companies product as a reward for donating to your ks? like nothing he's offering is exclusive to him or the project

like i thought backer rewards were related to the project and creator, like a thankyou note, beta access, or "i help fund some shit" t-shirt

You will make his tortured autistic, transgender, lesbian soul happy. And in the end, that is all that matters.:heart-full:

Over paying for a Lego encyclopedia and knowing you "Bo-lived" in Chris' dreams.

People are donating $1 because it allows them to comment on the project. You can't comment without a contribution.

I have a friend who regularly donates $1 amounts to stupid projects just to call them out. Doesn't cost a dime because they all inevitably fail. He's a bit of a ween.
Being a backer also enables one to see any backer-only updates. Though this being Chris, he'll probably post updates on his Facebook and assume that all his backers will see.

Two of the models he's offering are also the models he needs to buy multiples of for his blueprints, so he's not even really rewarding anyone. He's most likely giving backers the leftovers once he gets what he needs out of them. I'm sure the advent calendar and the encyclopedia by contain minifigs he needs.

Unfortunately, it IS against their TOS to offer rewards that the Kickstarter creator did not create, as I mentioned earlier. They can't essentially "resell" something from another manufacturer as a reward. If he changes the rewards to original creations, it's fine. Currently, he's in violation.

There was a Kickstarter a few years back so this dude could recreate the first level of Super Mario Bros. in LEGO. For himself. It didn't succeed.

(I've helped a lot of people with graphic stuff for their Kickstarters, so I've become pretty familiar with the rules.)

EDITED to include link : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/plaidsquirrel/epic-mario

Also, a 'disagree' mark for stating Kickstarter facts? Rad!

Ok I kinda thought he was trying to raise funds to see his project developed for retail sale to others. So we could buy and build our very own CwC-mall to play in.

So instead he's just asking for money to buy the thousands of dollars(!1!!) worth of Lego he needs to build it for himself.

It's just outright begging for toys then. I thought it would take a few more years before he devolved into just outright bold-faced begging for Legos from strangers on the internet.

This is a new low for Fatty. A 32 year old man begging strangers for toys. Wow.

If it was a Kickstarter for, say, key money so that Chris & Barb could get a place after their insurance money runs out, I MIGHT have ponied up a few bucks. Especially if he offered something like signed original art as a donation incentive. But LEGO??? The man's utterly childish priorities never cease to amaze me.

Wellp nb4 removal then.

This might be the single most autistic thing he's ever posted. Also, I'm fairly certain that giving a manbaby money to play with Legos all day violates Kickstarter's "projects must be something that can be shared with the community" rule.

I thought if Chris was going to start an e-begging campaign it was going to be a Patreon page, since it's for "content creators" like him (probably doing shit with LEGOs qualifies as "creating content" for him), oh well.
