Delete and warn retards who take said blatant shitty bait
this would encourage them to post more bait
Fuck off. She came onto that kid in chat and started telling him how she wanted to plug his butt with a strapon and then a week later she's crying about what a creep he is in chat because he told her he liked lolicon. This is the forth fucking time she's publicly crucified some sped and I'm sick of handling the fallout of her bipolar, sociopathic bullshit. Team Waifu can go drown.
Philosophy Zombie is saying if you're going to put the blame on a person who's getting DDoS'd for having a security flaw, then you should also put the blame on Waifu's victim for having a lapse in judgement. It's the same as blaming people for taking EDF's bait, while they get the luxury of not being punished for breaking any rules.

(FYI I think Waifu should have been banned a long time ago and I'm currently one of the only people who defends the guy in chat)

I let LIC get away with 50% of what he does because it's funny to me. I mean I literally decorate his posts with fishing hooks and people still get riled up for 4 fucking pages at the idea that "women don't have dicks".

The forum is growing soft, and over-sensitive. It expects us to protect them from dissenting opinions and I'm not going out of my way to make people comfortable anymore. I'd rather be a hypocrite and show favoritism than let the crybabies feel at home.

I feel the issue is that the people who reply and get hooked by bait posts and threads will not change. You can see the same people making fools out of themselves again and again and they never learn because they don't want to. As much as people like LIC get what they want out of morons taking them seriously the repliers seem to get just as much pleasure out of the exchange. In the end, the people who lose out are the the ones who would rather laugh at lolcows instead of two unfunny speds arguing.

Yes. There is no hotfix/patch for human stupidity.

If our userbase were super small I'd say maybe they could be somewhat 'trained', but giving certain individuals a free pass to treat our own site this poorly isn't going to toughen up the community as a whole. This is about simply applying some kind of consistent policy across the field and providing solid lolcow threads that shouldn't consist of too much off-topic banter and self-inserts for attention.

The exact same shit happened with P-Logic
I hold the unpopular opinion of enjoying P-Logic posts, and this is a decent comparison. I'd point out the main difference though is that P-Logic stays within the Chris board, actually talks about Chris, and doesn't blatantly break rules. Posting unpopular opinions is different from off-topic spam that clutters the site and kills discussion rather than creating it.

No one cares when Catparty or Dynastia does it.
No I think Cat and dynastia laugh at us too

Of course they laugh at us. But Cat and Dynastia do end up getting restrained to some degree, just like everyone else. I've moved plenty of their threads to Inner Circle and other more appropriate locations when need be. The difference is that I've applied literally no moderation on these new folk. And I would like to. As Null said, Hellblazer and HSMOF have stepped up and done some solid mod work without checking this, but I'd like to get an official go-ahead and to get everyone on the same page.

(Also Cat and Dynastia are swell folks who do contribute positively to the community in other cases rather than being intentional rule benders 100% of the time)

Regardless of Cat, Dynastia, P-Logic, Waifu, my left nutsack, whatever, I just want that green light go-ahead to do what Hellblazer and HSMOF have already fairly started applying.

Spoilered for being a shitpost

It's a different scenario because LIC doesn't matter. He doesn't. Nobody would miss LIC if I banned him. Nobody would miss P-Logic if he were banned. Sorry, that's the truth. They're a forum antagonist and clash with the culture of the board and the desired outcome to this nobody intrusion is to ignore him.

Waifu wasn't a nobody, she's been around for like a year, and neither were her tagets. That was something internal that had to be remedied. It doesn't follow the same rules because it's not the same thing.

I was actually tempted to warn Ruin for taking the bait but I figured that'd just upset more people. "omg why do u love ed so much hurr".

I'm highly skeptical that doing nothing about the shitposting and baiting will help anyone become tougher. At best it'll scare people off, and if that's what you're going for you may as well just start banning people for taking bait, or else just turn this place into EDF3 already. Humans are stupid by nature, it's just that some are less so than others, and even then there are times when they'll suddenly get very stupid about something.

People set up protections against DDOS attacks because they can't otherwise control the actions of the people who are DDOSing, but in this situation there is at least some control over the "attacker" in this analogy. Refusing to moderate normally just because you feel like users should be moderating themselves seems pointless, and makes it look like you're not entirely sure why you have rules about that sort of thing in the first place. If baiting and shitposting didn't have that effect on people, there wouldn't need to be a rule against it in the first place.

I think we all need to remember our roots

This is a forum that mocks retards and if someone falls for a retard post bait then they should be mocked too

I find the ED crew to be a nice change, too many folks are taking themselves way too seriously lately.

Semper Fi mutherfuckers!

This. For a forum dedicated to observing and laughing at lolcows and observing internet drama, people sure haven't learned anything. ED does have grounds to laugh at us in that regard*sigh*

edit:
While I agree that a little bit of pot stirring keeps things interesting, if an EDiot come to our house then they still need to abide by our rules. The same applies to any Kiwi who goes over to their house. The EDiots need to follow the same rules as us, either loosen the rules or enforce it equally among everyone.

Yeah but then the thread gets shitted up. I want to laugh at lolcows not random tards tweaking over dumb shit that doesn't matter. If I wanted to laugh at random tards, I'd sit at a gas station on Main Street for 3 hours.

Aren't lolcows just random tards that tweak over shit that doesn't matter though?
When lolcows do it, it's funny. When some random person starts derailing a thread with irrelevant shit, it's annoying, not funny. Unless they go so overboard as to become halal, but that's a different matter.

Here's my take. The rules were applied unevenly from way before ED came. It has always been at the moderator's discretion, and, as human beings, are far from objective and uninvolved.

What I would like to see is a clearer chain of command where admin only use their power on managers, managers to supervisor with the goal make sure the people below them do their job correctly.

Which mean supervisor should be trusted enough to handle a banhammer, and at the same time having all the tools means they won't have to prove themselves as much with the delete button.

Giving the orientation this forum is going, that's the best advice I can give.

LikeIcare can be very funny at least to me. I will admit that at times he is fun to play with as he has played around with us. Basically you have to look at LIC's posts not as much bait, but as cat play. Cats play with each other as a way of honing their skills and abilities. My suggestion is to rather than simply ignore his posts. Learn to draw trolls out. Learn to bait on your own. The mods may find it shitposting, but not all trolls are malicious as much as have a desire for someone to play with. The ability to see bait for what it is and also effectively plant it yourself is a very necessary skill in any argument.

That being said, currently members here have to worry that they will get negative points from staff for engaging them and ignoring them will not make them go away. Anytime you have uneven rules is going to create issues. @Glaive is very right to be concerned about this and asking for a clear policy decision in front of everyone here is also appropriate. Also @sugoi-chan is correct that this discourages smarter posters from wanting to participate in this board. Null's position that people need to toughen up is a tact I agree with as well, but expecting people to suddenly smarten up by enduring this without guidance is overly optimistic.

I propose a third approach. Teach people to be better at detecting bait and creating bait of their own. After a few of our disasters lately, I have wanted to write a thread about detecting bait posts and methodology of drawing people out. There are a lot of unwritten rules here, but some of them should be spelled out.
