Damn I forgot all about Rita and Runt, I'll hand you that one. Can't comment on Goodfeathers since I don't remember a thing about them (which probably says something about how I feel). Chicken Boo's design is adorable but man talk about being a one trick pony.

Honestly, these characters are the only reason why Animaniacs was -- and to lesser extent is -- so popular. Whenever I hear someone talk about the show these are the only characters mentioned. WB could release a barebones DVD/Bluray compilation of just these guys' shorts and that shit would sell like hotcakes.

Seriously did anyone actually, unironically enjoy the other skits?

I honestly don't remember much about those other characters beyond what they do and the fact that they're all one-trick ponies.

Hell, I can even extend that to the Warners for most of their shorts. I can only image the show became as popular as it was for three reasons:
- The animation (and even then, it's hit and miss)
- The references (same as above)
- Minerva Mink (Yet another one trick pony in terms of gimmick)

Anything involving TMS or the Chicago-based Startoons usually tend to be decent.

Katie Ka-Boom is absolute female garbage hiding in an otherwise good show. Curses on anyone who likes, let alone remembers, that cunt.

On that note, I think Don Bluth's reputation is somewhat overrated.

He made four films generally considered good - The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven - and then a lot of bad - Rock-a-Doodle, Thumbelina, A Troll in Central Park, The Pebble and the Penguin, Anastasia...

You don't see the disparity there?

I have. It was pretty noticeable in Titan AE for me (namely the writing). There was that time in the 80's when he was rather hot stuff when it came to those earlier films (and to some extent, the Dragon's Lair/Space Ace video games), but then after 1989, it just kinda slid downward. Perhaps he felt he didn't need to prove anyone anymore so he let himself go. Going back to Secret of NIMH, there were plenty of things done in that that weren't really being seen at all for it's time, especially the obvious inclusion of mortality among these rodents. That impressed me when I was 5. In the 90's, I couldn't see it.

Dragon's Lair wasn't a very good video game. It was a good demo of new technology, I suppose, and visually stunning, but just not much of a game.

Plus QTEs exist thanks to it, so fuck it for that, too.

Yes, it did. Certainly wasn't a good game by any stretch of the word. I was more impressed at seeing the development on Cup Head than remembering what LaserDisc gameplay tried 30 years ago.

Yeah, I was never too keen on Dragon's Lair either. Once you've seen playthroughs, you've pretty much played the "game". Then again, this is true for most laserdisk games in general. The only difference is that DL's got good animation.

Every other animated game either tried to crib from DL's success (Badlands, Esh's Aurunmilla, Super Don Quix-ote and Ninja Hayate to name a few), or simply take pre-existing footage (namely anime flicks of familiar recognition) and make a game out of it (Cliff Hanger and Bega's Battle are good examples of this type). They were practically throwing ideas in the air with these. It's no doubt the were envious of Bluth having stuck his hat out first.

I'm kind of in agreement with you there. Secret of NIMH and Land Before Time are probably the only movies of his that I like. Everything else is just... I dunno. Characters that look like they're going to cry faster than you can say 'Steven Universe' at any given moment; uncanny valley-levels of rotoscoping, and the almost unnerving grotesque fat characters with wormy, mealy-looking lips. Ughhhh. I'll agree with those who say he's a good animator, but once you start to notice his flaws, the house of cards come tumbling down.

Also, hell, he (allegedly) knew that Judith Barsi's father was a subhuman sack of shit (there's a story where he told Judith's dad to back off during a recording session for one of his movies when he was getting a little controlling over her), so why didn't he say something to the authorities or alert Child Protection Services? Granted, it was the late 80's/early 90's, but still... you really messed up there big time, Don.

Those lips are his weakness! Now I'm just thinking of Tiger from An American Tail with his beach ball figure!

Okay I have some stuff to add to my unpopular opinion list:

* Yes it's a balant Disney knockoff but idgaf, man I love me some Anastasia. It's very well cast and the soundtrack is excellent, but I will say the actual character animation isn't outstanding.

* I could never bring myself to enjoy All Dogs Go to Heaven. Like, the script felt calculated to pull on your heartstrings without any real emotion. Excellent animation though.

* Cats Don't Dance would be awesome to see on Broadway, especially if it takes cues from the Aladdin play.
