Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I really don’t think Other M is the clusterfuck everybody says it is. It’s story focuses far more on how Samus dealt with all the shit in Super Metroid, and that was a lot of shit. She lost her childhood home, and couldn’t save the one thing that she felt a genuine connection to, and saved her ass from a giant brain dinosaur. You don’t just walk away from that, and as a result, is more clingy to people from her past and listens to them far more, out of fear that defying them could either get them hurt, or killed.
Even the Ridley encounter makes some sense, Samus is no stranger when it comes to PTSD, it was a big part of the 2002 Manga (which are considered canon). Even then, in nearly every game, there is some reason to believe that Ridley will show up sometime.
Zero Mission: The robot at the end implies the Space Pirates found Ridley’s remains, and were working on reviving him.
Prime 1: Shot to the Chest and falls off a cliff. No confirmed corpse.
Prime 3: We still see no remains of Ridley, he could have escaped somewhere.
Samus Returns: The Space Pirates could discover that the Federation is exterminating all Metroid, and would probably send someone to stop her, and sent Ridley.
Super: Samus had just fought Ridley, and was still prepared mentally to face Ridley on the offhand that he’s still alive, where he either toys with Samus, or is morally wounded and flies away. In the next fight, we see pieces of him fall apart, and then the planet he was on explodes. There should be no coming back from that.
Fusion: Samus sees the X take the remains of Ridley, and had enough time to prepare herself mentally in case she fights an X-infested clone of Ridley.
Other M: Comes right out of nowhere, after he blew up, and then the planet he was on blew up, and in a place that didn’t make sense, catching Samus off-guard for maybe a minute. But the boss fight itself was awesome.
I never even had that much of a problem with the controls, sure the D-pad takes some getting used to, but it wasn’t anything I had an overall issue with.
But it certainly ain’t the big masterpiece MovieBlob and Blobson says it is.

I don't like the recent trend in E-Sports of Franchised Leagues, those include the Overwatch League, League of Legends's NA LCS, and the Smite Pro League, all being franchised. Those leagues have a high buy-in amount for teams to get in, ($20 million for OWL teams, and $10 million for NA LCS teams) which narrows the amount of teams that could even make it into those leagues. Also, with teams remaining the same, the fear that a team will just coast along, just for the sake of a paycheck, ala the Cleveland Browns, is there. And them trying to emulate franchised sports leagues feels off and forced, compared to E-Sports in the past where it grew on it's own, without multi-millions in funding from various sponsorships, or even rich people just wanting to own a team, in the case of some Chinese E-Sports teams.

8bit is the laziest of lazy
don't get me wrong, there are games with good pixel art and\or retro look
but 9/10 it's because someone can't be arsed to draw something better
i agree. though, the reason people do this is because they don't have the resources to be able to do 16 bit or 3d. personally, i wish we had more 16 bit and 34 bit indie games. that's where the bit style shines.

Haven't read whole thread so I don't know if theres' anyone else that has the same opinion, but Skyrim is one of the shittiest games I have ever played. Whoever thinks that this lazy product that somehow was worse than the previous in the series in just about everything, is good needs to get their head checked. I hate this game with all my being, and I hate that this is the only thing the fandom talks about. Anything related to the Elder Scrolls will be filled with Skyrim only casual furries that talk about their edgy OC, and I despise it.

Never played Skyrim, but I hold the same opinion about Morrowind. Elder Scrolls spazzes recommended it to me and my best friend; we loaded it up, charged in with a spear ready to kill some monsters...
And nearly got our shit kicked in because of a fucking grub. When you see your halberd go right through a little worm thing that should have died in one hit, and it's beating your ass to a pulp, something is very wrong. If you're going to make a 3D game, make some motherfucking hitboxes, don't put everything on an accuracy stat that you never explain!
If you're wearing armor, which is the logical thing to do, you move like a damn turtle.
The food you find doesn't restore HP, it restores "fatigue." Another thing that is never explained. Some things you can eat, like rat meat, actually drop your health. What idiot thought that useless items were a good idea?!
All of these are problems we ran into in the first twenty minutes. We called in the Uninstall Fairy and felt much better.

Having started with Oblivion and trying Morrowind without having played it when it first came out I found it hard to play and kind of too clunky. I just never took that time to get used to it and was turned off for some of the same reasons you were.

The whole dice-roll mechanic has no place in an action RPG like The Elder Scrolls, at least as far as determining if you hit something goes. In a game like Knights of the Old Republic or the original Fallout games, it's fine since you're giving commands to your character, not actively controlling their actions. But in a game where you actively control them and their attacks, it's nothing more than a way to waste your time and piss you off as your weapons somehow "miss".

I really wanted to give Morrowind a fair chance, but the combat and stamina nonsense (which somehow also affects your chance to successfully cast a spell and brew a fucking potion) made me drop it after several hours. I appreciate it for helping to lay the foundation for future Elder Scroll and Fallout games, but it's a bit too frustrating for my tastes.

Having played most of the main titles of the series, you miss out. The focus has always been more on the world and the journey rather than the combat. What Morrowind does is that it has DnD logic in a 3D game, which yes is fucking stupid. You have to hope for the imaginary dice roll to let you hit, and also have your fatigue high enough for your chances to not plummet. The point is that you use should use weapons that match your major skills, because anything else will not benefit you at all. When the skill reaches higher levels the player will almost always hit, so this fukery only happens at the start of the game.
The rat meat thing is just because you were being impatient, of course not everything is going to restore your health, food is also used for alchemy. There are many different potions that you can make as long as you have the necessary skills, with a lot of different effects. To restore health, you use potions or just rest.
There are three kinds of armor in the game, light, medium and heavy, and there's a skill for each one of them, as well as one for unarmored. The heavy armor is obviously heavy and will cause you to move like a slug. Even more so if you choose to not sprint, since the default for your character is to walk. But since sprinting needs fatigue, and you need that to hit things, when exploring you need to be careful with that.
From what you said, it sounds like you just started up the game and just left the first town guns blazing, not taking your time to get used to anything. The game needs patience.
(rating was only because you asked for it)

Having played through KOTOR 1 again, I can't ignore all of the problems I have with the game.

On one hand, a lot of the characters, (i.e. HK-47, Canderous, Jolee) are pretty awesome. Others however, I found kinda annoying or uninteresting. (Mission, Zalbaar, Carth) And the romance sub-plot with Bastilla ended in a rather unsatisfying way.

There are quite a few awesome moments in the game, but in between them is boring side quests and sub plots that just slow the pace of the game down to a crawl. It doesn't help that most NPC's are aliens who use a very limited amount of voiced alien dialogue that is constantly re-used throughout the game. It just feels like they're talking gibberish rather an actual alien language. I understand that this was a game from the early 2000's and it is a bit unreasonable to assume they would create multiple languages just for one game, but it got distracting after a while.

Also, combat is dull as fuck. You're either splattering enemies across the floor or you're dealing with massive HP sponges. The final level throwing endless waves of dark jedi in particular was a slog to get through.

Also, the way the morality system works is either super goody two shoes or mustache twirling evil. Little to no nuance. Apparently KOTOR 2 is a lot better in this regard, but that game had it's own myriad of issues that kept me from getting more than a few hours into it.

It's honestly not one of the better Star Wars games in my opinion. Neither of them are.

(XanderMartin98's Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI reviews)

Honestly, the fact that this guy actually DIDN'T give both of these games a perfect 10/10 score is actually a pretty unpopular opinion

If you actually take the time to PROPERLY analyze most RPGs that get hyped up to golden-age Square Enix (and Undertale) levels from a critical standpoint, you'll quickly start to realize that they are 9/10 games, not fucking 10/10 games; truthfully, no game really deserves 10/10

And now to reiterate another surprisingly unpopular opinion; Chrono Trigger is overall incredibly boring and shallow compared to FFVI

A lot of modern RPGs have way more interesting lore than actual gameplay.

Might as well call "Fallout 4 is a shallow piece of shit compared to 3 and New Vegas" an unpopular opinion, while you're at it

On a somewhat more serious note:

Um Jammer Lammy is literally the only good game of the Parappa series so far

Samus Returns is easily just as good as Super Metroid and AM2R in its own right

Undertale is literally the exact same level of great as both Earthbound and MOTHER 3

And on a slightly more self-aware and piss-taking note:

Breath Of The Wild is not a 10/10 game but rather a 9.999999/10 game

I remember back when I played Wolfenstein: The New Order and I was extremely annoyed that the game was about 50 GB despite being a roughly 6-8 hour game with no multiplayer. The only reason it's that size at all is because of the uncompressed cutscenes. I love the game, but there's no justification to keep it installed once I finished a playthrough, especially with how pitifully small the PS4 hard drive space is.

And the worst part was that this was in 2014. I thought that Wolfenstein was just an annoying exception, but the trend only got worse. It's irritating to only be able to keep 8 games installed at once because they're all 50-70 GB.

And the megatextures, some technology that allows the entire map to be covered by one ultra-large texture so nothing is repeated.

Fallout 4 was fucking ridiculous with this. Every texture in the game was unnecessarily huge with even minor crap like dust particles and random trash/clutter at 1024 x 1024 minimum.
