Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

One disadvantage of player hosted servers:

You upset the admin in any way, you get kicked.

I got banned from Black Ops 1 server for using the AK-47 with Steady Aim or something, I don't even remember. You're not allowed to do anything "meta" in old games any more, like you have to use exclusively pistols while walking backward or some shit.

unless we are talking about that disgusting thing that is deadly shadows, fuck that console shit
Deadly Shadows was good, though.

Wow, it's almost like you missed my point entirely.
It's not that it's impossible, or even particularly difficult. It's that it's a mid-game genre shift to a meh survival horror game. That's not the fun part of Thief to me.
i didn't miss the point at all considering my post, you compared two different games that share mechanics but with a different focus, thief's entire thing is stealth, the combat is a bonus, dishonored's entire thing is combat but stealth is optional, even the way you parry attacks is different, the game ending literally has a requirement of you NOT BEING DETECTED by the last boss and doing a switcheroo, you are not supposed to combat him unlike in dishonored...

it's like comparing burnout and forza because you can bump into people, the difference is that burnout you send niggas flying and forza you get a fag bitching at you if it's MP.

the way lore works or not i don't care or give a shit, you can still stealth through them but you have to be good at it, in the cases you fuck up and have to combat/kill them, the game won't mission fail you however hence the game telling you about holy water arrows and whatnot, the biggest asswipes are the fucking haunts.
Deadly Shadows was good, though.
oil slipping niggers is fun but the rest is meh as shit, especially the "wait for the arm going up before you can backstab or else it's a regular attack" shit, just let me hit niggas in the back and count as a backstab dammit.

I'm sick of game devs whining about the 2 hour refund window Steam offers. Sorry that your game was short and the player didn't feel it was worth keeping, but that says more about your product then anything.

Wow, it has a really dumb and almost forgettable title.. Wonder what the game looks like..

4 dollars for a glorified Roblox obby that looks like Minecraft.

I'd refund too.

You're still missing it. This will be my last attempt to explain it.

Like or dislike Dishonored, at no point does it ever give you anything other than Dishonored. It is the same game from the first level to the last. And it's pretty good at being that game.

Thief goes from Thief to Proto-Steampunk Resident Evil Slop. And it's good at being Thief, but makes for at best very "meh" Proto-Steampunk Resident Evil Slop.

I felt like Thief was a pretty good story. You're just some dude...but Events happen. And now you gotta stop the Unseely Court when, frankly, you just really wanna steal gold. But the world ending would get in the way of your next heist, so...gotta do what you gotta do. I didn't think Dishonored was good. It was okay. Mediocre enough that I had no interest in Dishonored 2 even before I knew it was for Modern Audiences.

I liked the graphics.

somehow i'm missing what i explicitly said to not care about while pointing out your complaint about a stealth game being bad at combat, not to mention that i've also explained that you can still stealth through said ludonarrative dissonance disconnections and is even required to do so in order to beat the last boss... the tonal change might tip you off but that doesn't change the fact that stealth remains possible even if it's against a weird skeleton saying join us after you were used to deal with bri'ish guards and whatnot....

combat wise dishonoreds are good.

People blaming Steam for video games transitioning to digital only are retarded. PC gaming exists as an open platform. You can rip, archive and compile software with computers. That is not afforded with consoles.

You could freely emulate thousands of games and store them indefinitely on a hard drive to access whenever. Buying games from PSN or Xbox Live means those purchases are tied to an account. If you lose access to the account for whatever reason, you lose those licenses.
Gaming companies fucking hate that, though. That's why legal copies are buried to hell with DRM.

And if you say "just pirate it", well, that just ends with the games you like not getting a sequel, since the dev team and the corpos backing them didn't make a profit.

I think it is a Steam thing that led to digital gaming overtaking physical. I still remember the days when even PC gamers waited in line for physical copies of games like their console brethren, but Steam made it so easy and convenient to gave entire libraries of games be digital. Then the other companies saw that business model, and before long, you had Epic Games, EA, Sony, Microsoft, and even Nintendo copying the model. Half my Switch library is physical, the other half is digital. Same for my Xbox 360 library.

Sony just took it to the next logical step to try and become the Steam of console gaming, but they have no monopoly on that to survive making such a bad PR move. They're not as popular as Steam. Nintendo making their first party games $60 a pop even years after release is something they can get away with, since they still make fun exclusives. Sony can't, because their exclusives are nowhere near as fun, and most of what they offer, you can get on Xbox or PC.

I just live by the principle of never buying anything that the seller will take back if they find out I said the nigger word. Makes life much simpler.
That used to be a sacred right back in the peak of the Halo/CoD days. Nowadays, you'll probably get banned from most voice chats. The same people who used such language made the Xbox brand great, but Microsoft chased them away while chasing the normie demographic. A demographic that wound up with Nintendo instead. How ironic.

This is why I avoid such servers. Unless it's a co-op game, but even they will ban you if they don't like how you play.

You said you didn't care about lore. I'm not talking about lore.
that's the part of the ludonarrative dissonance that does the tonal shift, garret being fucked over by the woodsie lord after the double cross that cost him his eye didn't change his fedora tipper ways nor it made him any less of a thief.
but who cares, he still got to steal crap even going to the dimension where the fucker lives, hell all of the places he went he looked for loot and still tried to avoid combat although his avoid-killing rule remained for humans and only humans.

I'm sure the developer's entire argument revolves around "but its just $4 bruh..."

I've bought Terraria for $2.50 the first year it released in and I've amassed 850+ hours in that game. Why? because it was fucking fun, that's why. This garbage here you call a game? It is what it is upon first sight and anybody that would bother with such a game, are just morbidly curious individuals with too much free time on their hands to bother. No sane self-respecting individual would waste even a quarter.

"Badmins" as we used to call them have always existed but it feels like there's no escape from joyless faggots these days.

I got banned from the only active battlefield 2 server because I couldn't understand the fagmin's shitty English and got banned.

I tried playing a CS:S custom zombies mode server and a custom map server run by boomers and was met with a wall of rules both times.

TF2 has this problem on 80-90% of community servers.

Remember, as of 2025, roughly 60% of able bodied US citizens work. The only people with enough time to effectively moderate/run a game server 24/7 are either NEETS or children/teenagers. In my experience, TF2 used to be full of servers run by well adjusted teenagers and young adults with summer jobs, but a lot of them got married, had kids and slowly stopping playing.

Now all that's left are troons, losers, and the like, so it makes sense why everything sucks shit now.

Steam was the best case scenario, imagine if we were stuck with Games for Windows Live instead.
You can't reliably play old console games on new consoles, either. The problem is with digital distribution - you cannot install Steam and download your old, shitty games on your old, shitty PC. By contrast, you can order a used PS2 game on ebay and play it on an old PS2. It's a marginal part of the market, of course. There was a tiny, loud outcry when Steam dropped XP support, then nobody cared 6 months later. Same with Win 7 support. Soon, Win 10 support.
You can, just install Linux on the old shitty PC and steam will work just fine.

I have a working theory that the death of movie tie-in games is somehow tied to this wasteland of Triple A corporate greed that we live in now.

15 years ago, you could put out almost anything and some studio would come to you and ask if they can make a game about it. Now though, that's fucking unheard despite superhero movies for example routinely making billions of dollars. Green Lantern, Captain America, even Cat Woman got games. There are 10 Star Wars projects, 30 marvel movies, 3 Wick movies, and now 5 DC things that are prime for adaptation and no one's biting. Hell, it seems like major corpos have made it impossible for studios to bite what with all the red tape around rights now. Disney giving Star Wars to EA, possibly the worst gaming studio in the world, comes to mind.

I hope that doesn't make me sound like too much of a consoomer but the sheer lack of non-indie games coming out these days makes me wonder.

Steam doesn't work on any Linux more than about 2 years old.
The linux install I'm typing this on is about two years old and it's working just fine. Yeah if you don't update things will probably start breaking but you'll have far bigger problems to worry about than vidya not working in that case.

They were all made by one company - THQ nordic, which went bust and took them with it. I'd say that if anything this is one area where the industry improved since instead of a quick cash grab we usually Get arkham-style adaptations that o their own thing.

Yeah, you're right on the cusp of an updated GLIBC requirement unless they slowed their cadence recently. Although lately, even RHEL has been breaking ABI compatibility mid-dot release. It's really insane.

Yeah if you don't update things will probably start breaking
We're talking about running on Win XP or Win 7, which stopped receiving updates a long time ago.

This is what makes you Linux people so annoying. You don't even bother understanding what the person's frustration is. Your brain just goes "Have a frustration? Switch to Linux."

What do you be doing that gets you banned like that often?

Thread tax:
Of the Big Three (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo,) I think Sony is performing the worst for consumer goodwill.
I told you. Sony was the first to forego optical media.
