Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I like the WiiU, despite everything. I mostly blame Nintendo for failing to explore it to its full potential. It does have some very good exclusives (or else why bother porting some them to the Switch?) and the concept was neat.

And I dare say that the WiiU's "failure" did lead to the Switch so it wasnt all that bad, right?
Honestly I straight up prefer the Wii U over the switch. Two thirds of the switch's library are ports and the Wii U's gamepad was a lot more comfortable to hold than those godforsaken joycons.

I'm convinced the name contributed enormously to its failure, at least in the anglosphere. Even if they'd just called it the "Wii 2", people would've gotten the gist that it's a sequel to the previous thing they liked.

But for six years, you had Wii, Wiimotes, WiiSports, Wii-this, and Wii-that. I really can't fault the public for not taking notice of whatever the fuck a WiiU is.

Not about games per se, but... You know those "gaming chairs"?

Yeah, these ones.
Well, they fucking suck ass. Uncomfortably hard and unnecessarily constrictive. The shape doesn't really fit anyone's body, and all the bullshit pillows on the backrest only cause more discomfort. Plus, they are always made from the most unbreathing and plasticky fake leather in the world, just to guarantee you'll end up with a sweaty back. I don't understand where did they come from. I don't understand why do people keep buying them.

Look at any high-value chair designed for office workers. The purpose is the same, but they never look like this kitchy garbage. The fact these keep selling like gangbusters is more proof that gamers are some of the biggest rubes in the world.
Those things feel like repurposed car seats. If I wanted to sit in a car, I'd sit in my car.

DS > 3DS
The indie sphere is just as dogshit as modern triple-A; the only difference is that indie (usually) has less scummy monetization
2D-3D is straight dogshit
Xbox does not have a single good franchise to its name
Console refreshes are a terrible concept unless the base console has extreme flaws that would require it (ie Xbox 360 red rings), and efforts towards making them should instead be directed towards entirely new consoles
Online multiplayer has tainted gaming as a whole (and especially the group of people who enjoy it). 99% of games would be better without it.
Not a single game past the fifth gen needs a remake, and those that do are total dogshit that require a "fix" more than they do a remake.
The concept of card-based video games is incredibly dumb and there isn't a single one that wouldn't be better off as an actual card game/not existing at all
The Wii U is overhated, and its controller is actually very fun to use. Feels a bit big, but how can it not with that big a screen (not sure if this is even unpopular anymore but it used to be so i'm including it)
Always-online games are outright fucking scams that are equivalent to paying to use internet on a console. Ethereal bullshit that'll disappear before the decade ends and solely exists to suck every penny out of your wallet.
Singleplayer games should not have language filters

Is there even a difference at this point? Multi-generational games are more prevalent and enduring than ever and hardware upgrades seem like a "for best experience" option with new games rather than a clear end-of-life for the previous gen.

Probably not, though granted i've always been against them even when they did matter. Didn't like when the 3DS called itself new, didn't like when the PS3 decided it needed so many different variants, don't like it now with shit like the Switch OLED.

Monster Hunter World's co-op is cursed. I don't know how they made it so that you can join mid-quest, but you can't start a story quest with your friend because they need to reach the cutscene and only then they can fire the SOS flare and you can join their game. And then if you're both progressing together, they need to wait for your cutscene and then join your game.

Why can't I just join in and we watch the cutscene together? This can't be rocket science because you could do that in games like Saint's Row 2 and it's a whole decade older. If you like multiplayer it's ok, because no one is waiting for you, it's just someone's gonna look at his quest board and see your SOS flare and join in. But co-op is fucked.

Every Monster Hunter are repetitive and grindy but in its defense, the games never ask you to do things multiple times. You can technically beat them really quickly except upgrades are kinda important if you don't want to get killed in 1-2 hits and don't want to hit the same monster for 40 minutes. MH just exploit your autism in wanting whatever weapon or armor that needs you to get materials and you do quests multiple times until you get all the drops you need. It's not perfect by any means but it's really nice if you don't mind farming (the game knows what you need and will make your drops rarer though).

At least the game isn't pretending it's not copypasted all over.

I feel like if youtubers promoted race car beds like they promote these fucking race car seat looking ass monstrocities, every retard would start living like Milhouses dad.

For real, it's amazing how it seems like you can take any old junk, slap "GAMING" on it, and it'll sell. They really should sell race car beds. Slap the logos for Forza, Gran Turismo, and Mario Kart on there, paint them their corresponding console colors, and you'll make a mint.

There were definitely some good ones. GBA SP and GBC were huge leaps.

Joke reviews have damn near ruined Steam.
Some joke reviews can be useful as a more evocative way of expressing what a game feels like than a literal description. Most are not and worst of all are pointless copypasta (fuck your ravioli copypasta).

I mean, you could argue GBC is an entirely separate console due to just how many exclusive games and differences it had from the GB (in my head the console order of that line has always been GB -> GBC -> GBA not GB + GBC -> GBA), so I'm not sure i'd agree there, but you're right on the SP at least. Giving up a headphone jack was worth it for that exquisite clamshell design and great feel.
Really can't think of too many other decent examples though. One stand-out really isn't worth 20 more needless refreshes.

Not really an unpopular opinion, but it’s an obvious one:

Playing both GTA III or GTA: San Andreas makes you have a tendency to think you’re living in a real life simulation. With the exception of the WASTED and coming back to life screen, you start to see real life NPCs and random incidents of them looking more like fantasy is blending into reality.

The only difference is that there’s no mute characters like Claude Speed or CJ wearing tank tops and jeans uttering out random phrases to Grove Street members and NPC civilians on the street.

The reason for a console refresh is that moving to a new process node allows them to reduce costs and cut the price on the console. Otherwise, you'll just pay pretty close to launch price for the whole life of the console.

I suppose you could consider it its own system, but it wasn't much stronger. There were a lot of GBC exclusives, but if considering it a system of its own then it has a tiny library (144). It's sort of in a grey area.

Most refreshes were unnecessary though, I agree.

hey man, that's only 61 less than the Wii U's entire physical library, so I count it :P

That's not a very complete list. Doesn't even have Super Mario DX.

They have other ports like Commander Keen on there.
You are right then. Looking into it, Wiki also says Commander Keen wasn't considered a port by the publisher, but that is more of a technicality and probably not something they factored into adding it to the list. Just figured I'd mention it anyway because it's vaguely interesting:

"Though the game was initially reported as a "remake" of the originals, Activision announced it as "based on" the original series.
