Sleepy Hollow and Twelve Monkeys (the Sci-Fi TV adaptation) were both massively slept on during their original broadcast and deserve reappraisal.
Unfortunately, the former got fucked by both its show writers and the network once it became obvious it wasn't going to fulfill a 7 season storyline, as was originally planned. The show's quality took a nosedive once it became a soap opera centred around Ichabod's strained familial relations, and
Abby's death was the final nail in the coffin. The last season was so bizarre in the sense it tried to write a new big bad into the story, billionaire Malcolm Dreyfuss (who is so OBVIOUSLY a Trump expy given the Scottish forename and German surname) who wasn't convincing in his role for a second. The "Bones" crossover was painful as well, and an obvious sign the show was a sinking ship trying a final Hail Mary to secure some better ratings. But still, the original concept was great and S1 was brilliant.
Twelve Monkeys was much more successful, the only problem is hardly anyone watched it. After its first season, no-one really cared about it, and it didn't help Terry Gilliam disowned it. Because of this, you'd think they butchered the source material. But really, they didn't, Gilliam was just being unnecessarily salty. The only major change from the original movie is the sex-shift of Brad Pitt's character from a man to a woman, with Jeffrey Goines becoming Jennifer. But her actress, Emily Hampshire, acted the HELL out of her and is easily a highlight from the show.
It would have been nice to have another season or so, and you can tell it didn't have the biggest budget due to the episode where they go back in time to 1987 Japan, most of it's in a nightclub to minimise expenditure on retro props like cars and building facades. But at its core, it's a really solid show and is certainly a welcome adaptation compared to some of the utter garbage we get nowadays (i.e. Rangz o' Powah).
