I'm curious which items everyone went with.

I went with YellowHat for Susie (rude buster damage) BlueShoes for Ralsei (I didn't want to use the bligger but the item seems op) and the GreenApron for Kris.

AquaKnife seems useless. Not being able to hit crits is a major skill issue and its damage is much worse than the Black Shard's.
O.Glove also soft-deconfirms that Susie will leave our party next chapter for those theorizing that.

I didn't pick any of them because I didn't have enough to buy any of them when I got to it, at that point I didn't feel like fucking around for another hour for an item I'll use in one battle before the chapter ends, especially after I just spent a bunch of time fighting Mew Mew.

I got Green's apron and Yellow's cowboy hat. The former because being able to heal while playing defense sounds great for learning patterns and the latter because it would be good both for offense and support. Haven't decided on the third item yet, but may choose Orange's. And if not her's, maybe Seth's.

Definitely not bothering with Aqua's when I can just get good, and the game actively discourages attacking and the damage is worse than Black Shard, Blue's out of principle I'm rejecting because his design is actually offensive and I refuse to dignify him at all unless absolutely necessary, and I'm not really too sold on SethSpecs because her (his?) effect is kinda antithetical to TP gain since you can't graze bullets if you're invulnerable. Orange's probably sucks, too, but at least it has a good defense stat.

Seth's 100%. It's possible some of the more specific items might become useful (and if Toby is a very good game designer then each of the item should have their own use) but rn it's better to go for the most general options imo

Seth's is not an issue, it gives 20% more I-frames, it's not really gonna impact your tp gain much but it could save you from taking some damage which probably matters more

I've been thinking about this Kris non-binary evidence. This is from Mancountry and the thingy says "non-men are a-ok too", and they swear by this little piece of dialouge. But if you think about it, it's really dumb. If the Rudins put it in here just for Kris to feel heckin' valid, why not just outright say "non-binary are a-ok too", and everybody clapped. But no it's just "non-men are a-ok too", which could mean girls too and is just as vague

Non-men could also literally mean...y'know, boys.

I mean, given that the whole Mancountry area is themed like a video game, my first impression of that statement was "It's okay to not be a grown-up here!" Any idea how it appears in Japanese?

It's katakana. Hiragana is less angular looking and for native words.

No, it's not common for the game to hit you with full Engrish sentences written in katakana. Obviously some quirk they chose for the Mancountry signs. If there is any secret to what the signs are saying then it's still hidden in Japanese by not really being translated.
