i thought it was kinda cool though
First reaction has that effect, now that the hype has faded for me, I can give an actual opinion.

Personally speaking, the hometown section was whatever and inoffensive, I lived my adolescence trough my parents separation so the parts with Toriel and Asgore were surprisingly accurate.

The noelle and susie section was whatever, some of the dialogue scenes and gags were fine, others were either inoffensive or forgettable.

I was enjoying the dark world part and characters/enemies until I started the yellow woody and the blugger section, that's the moment my enjoyment took a full stop and made me wish I was playing Yiik instead..

Ignoring that pile of shit, the chapter so far feels like it was stretched thin, toby has made this his dream project and he's cramming it with as many ideas as possible, as well sometimes without a second tought or double checking, this ON TOP of what's basically a remake of chapter 1 resulting in a good few jokes feeling stale and/or npcs sucking ass. There are enjoyable parts, its just that there's also a whole bunch of mid and shit that could have been downright pruned down.

The whole place being japanese themed is questionable, to be honest I feel like toby would have been able to explain the reason, but either forgot about it down the line or the mention is there but I wasn't able to find it cuz the chapter has way too much shit or I haven't reached that part yet..

Tl;dr: its mid: has good stuff but its executed poorly and suffocated by having too much ideas and faggotry at the same time, blue and yellow sucks as, but at least its not the finale of tadc.

I see we're already at the coping stage. Guise Tobias Foxworth will epically avenge himself in Chapter 5 6, just you wait and see

And once the full game is out, you can pull a Blue Lagoon-style cope and claim the yuri cucking was actually a 500IQ deconstruction of self-shipping in the RPG genre
I won't claim to know what'll happen next, but I will say that the way it's going is not ideal and it's very shoehorned in. I'm just going off the assumption that Tricky Tony isn't a complete hack and learned at least one lesson from Hussie's mistakes.
When I asked "who is the antagonist" I meant it quite literally, yeah its the knight, but quite literally WHO is the knight? What are its wants, desires, goals and motivations?
fair enough.

i feel like the ch1 nostalgia section was there to be similar to asgore's desire to return to the way things were, but then you jump into nihongoland and it feels completely out of place with everything else. like yeah it's a castle and asgore is the king, that's cool and all, i just didn't expect it to be japanese

You know that's actually a very good point, why the fuck was this chapter even Japanese themed? Outside of a couple of the songs and enemies the Japanese influence doesn't seem to be related to the main story whatsoever. Asgore isn't even dressed as a samurai or anything, he's just wearing knockoff Undertale armor.

The Asgore "very japanese time in my life" memes don't even make sense anymore because the fountain was made by Kris, not Asgore.

So why is Kris's darkworld suddenly japanese inside his dad's normal ass flower shop? It was church-themed in the church but still had the ch1 motifs because it was made by Kris, but here it's a blend of chapter 1 and... Japan. For no reason.

I'm not coping, I just still feel hollow. But I do think it can't get any worse; the worst thing that could happen, happened. If by a miracle Toby gets his shit together, good for him, if not nothing changes.

Am I crazy or were the bullet patterns all over the place this chapter? I haven't played since chap 4,but that wasn't even particularly a long time ago, it feels like this chapter had a lot of scrapped content with how much stuff it brings/sets up then ignores.

I usually don't skip text I've never seen before, but I was mashing on my C key like CRAZY over all the dialogue surrounding Noelle going like "Oh, I shouldn't flirt with other people" or "do you need help for your date susie" like shuttt the fuck up, I've always hated when characters were reduced to who they're in love with, so imagine my surprise when the ending was her going "you know that character that hasn't been anywhere near a dark world or relevant in like 5 years? Let's make this HER thing too" followed by a montage of the whole town rolling the red carpet for her. Suselle feels like it has this need to prove itself and in doing so drags down the writing quality whenever it shows up, meanwhile half of Ralsei's responses to Kris saying ANYTHING are blushing, Kris and Ralsei go down a tunnel of love, get called pushing buddies, and they can even be in a hotspring together, but Ralsei's still distinctly his own character independent of his seeming feelings for Kris. I REALLY hope she doesn't become an actual member of the fun gang again because she doesn't really fit into the dark world group and that definitely won't be remedied in the last 2 chapters of the game.

The fights, ignored lore, and weirdly high TP costs made the gameplay a slog outside of the platformer sections, but what kept me going were the moments whenever Susie was allowed to be herself because she's genuinely a hilarious character when she isn't being reduced to Noelle's top in scenes that feel weirdly cuck-ish. (I genuinely can't tell if there's an intentional Kris-Susie-Noelle love triangle going on or if Toby was just blasting ropes writing Susie carrying Noelle while Kris is sitting at a park bench)

This reminds me when the penultimate episode to the boys came out and (alongside the rest of the last 4 out of 5 seasons) was absolute dogshit but people were like "No dude, they're gonna save it last minute, I swear, there's still time, just you wait and see, they're gonna tie everything up in the last episode!"

Only for the final episode to come out and for everything people have been predicting since season 2 (i.e. that the ending would be complete dogshit) to come true, while the greater audience was seemlingly genuinely shocked that it turned out this bad when the warning signs werea ll there.

Shit, Episode 7 of Noose's Clussy FemMasc show had the same effect.

I haven't clued myself in on the story of this game since chapter 2, I liked Undertale for what it was and DTR interested me during the early chapters, but kind of lost interest on the Toby Fox universe a few years ago.

One of things that stuck with me and something I genuinely found heartwarming about those early chapters was the friendship between Kris and Susie, I liked how those two interacted, and consumed some fan content of them both in platonic and romantic contexts.

But according some some rumblings I heard on 4chan for chap 5, apparently, the entire friendship between the two turned out to be fake, Susie was apparently just hanging out with Kris just to get to Noelle, which sounds extremely fucking cruel to do to anyone, let alone a massive loner like Kris, is this true?, does anyone else here have more context?, because fucking hell, that's incredibly heartbreaking.

If I remember correctly, it's the reverse. Noelle was just hanging out with Kris (somehow it was forced for years in childhood) to get to Susie, and Susie got butchered to randomly become obsessed with Noelle despite having met for all of an hour the day before an antimatter cuck scene. After said scene, every connective suggestion from Susie has to involve Noelle. (from what I've read in this thread)

This is probably even worse of a situation.

Shit, Episode 7 of Noose's Clussy FemMasc show had the same effect.
I feel like it's a little bit different here because there was genuinely good stuff up until now. Susie and Kris had a great dynamic, the music was great, a lot of the levels were really fun. It was a solid experience.

The Boys was shit from season 2 onwards and TADC was 90% filler even before the finale.

This chapter fluctuated between forgettable and annoying. The secret boss was barely a secret boss. I found and beat it on my first run.

It's just;
collect a certain kind of special coins from very obvious chests
buy the bright pink "mystery key" from the shop
open the impossible to miss giant pink door
beat the boss

That's it. There isn't even any backtracking/talking to NPCs to reveal secrets aspect like last time, nor is there any cool lore implications. Ghostboy just snuck into Asgores shop to larp as an anime girl and just happened to be inside when the fountain was opened.

I don't think she even mentions the Knight.

So no cowboy chapter then and just "kris gets cucked guest starring mike"?

Unfortunate. What's the deal with "indie" stuff this last decade and hinting at/showing a glimpse of a cowboy episode that never will come and/or having the MC get cucked in some manner? Both digital circus and gameoverse did this shit too. Is there like some big money type behind this shit or is it just some weird fucking coincidence of leading people around with glimpses of cowboys and "subversion" that's just cucking?

Like at this rate there's gonna be some show that's premise is cowboy shit only for it to be about how it's all a simulation and the MC gets cucked every episode and it somehow gets stretched out to over 10 years of development.

It was easy to forgive the third chapter for throwing tons of shit at the wall because you had chapter 4's deep, focused and genuinely engaging gameplay and story to balance it out. There's nowhere for the flaws of chapter 5 to hide. I doubt the next chapter being great will change people's opinions of it much, either.

I really love how these were done, I could watch a couple of hours of Noelle going insane. It's honestly amazing how better and more interesting Noelle is when she is not attached to Susie. It's like an entirely different character.
