i think these people are either children or 18-20something adults that still think like children. it's easy to get into the mindset that specific things can only be enjoyed by specific people, and that line of thinking is only reinforced when a majority of its fans consist of people of certain demographics. this is why a lot of thread shitters on 4chan barge in to scream that deltarune is tranny shit, because they mainly see those kinds of people talk about it online. on 4chan, nobody knows you're a cub-loving MtF unless you link your youtube channel in which case they feel more justified in thinking anyone that likes the game is a tranny.
I like that the perception people have about Kris changes depending on where you look. If you look at Kiwifarms or 4Chan, people say Kris is male. If you look at Japanese people drawing Kris, a lot of them think he is male, but a lot also think he could be female. If you look at primarily English-speaking Twitteroids, they say Kris is nonbinary and that's that! and that's the one thing I don't think is alright because they're so adamant about it and refuse to even entertain the idea that there's a possibility that doesn't line up with their interpretation of Kris. I think Toby doesn't really give a fuck what people think Kris or Frisk or Chara is supposed to be, and just says "they" because it's not important enough for him to put his foot down about, but it's a little unfair that he doesn't just come out and say that, if that's the case. I understand he doesn't want to step on any landmines like the YIIK guy or Hussie, but people are way too vicious about this topic. It's not important, but people have tricked themselves into seeing themselves in every protagonist they have direct control over, which is why they freak the fuck out about this stuff. Going back to YIIK, it reminds me of the people that thought Alex was the writer's self insert. They only thought that because Alex is a guy that says a lot of stupid shit they don't agree with, but who in their right mind sees shit like this and thinks "the author is writing from personal experience as the kind of guy that says this sort of stuff"?
