I’ve never disagreed with someone so much but still appreciated their content as much as Technology Connections. I like the autistic deep dive kind of stuff even if I disagree with almost every political/social opinion he’s ever had (including praising European power plugs over American. I get why he thinks British plugs are superior, but I had a phone charger’s “safe” insulated tip break off into a socket before. Not very safe at all.)

It falls more under the “social” part, but IMO since he usually frames it as a safety thing that should be mandated by regulation, it’s political as a nanny state kind of policy.

It’s also just the first example of something I disagree with him about, that came to mind.

Maybe in Britain, I don’t know. I’m saying he’s, if anything, advocating for this kind of “protected” connection for plugs in the US as a matter of safety (not being able to short the connection), but I was using an anecdote where I had this kind of plug, and one of the tips broke off in the outlet, with no safe way I could think of extracting it (wasn’t my house so I can’t take the outlet off the wall).

My point is that I disagree with him. Since you asked how plugs are political, I’d say advocating policy change for something makes it political.

Clearly you’re a bit confused. I conceded TC’s point in British plugs, but I’m talking about the European plug style because they can also have shielded prongs and that’s what I have experience with. I’m aware that the US has plug regulations. TC would like those regulations to be changed to have shielded connections to the prongs. I disagree with that, and by extension, mandating it via regulation.

Not sure why this wasn’t clear but I apologize for not being more explicit from the get-go.
