Twilight Princess brought me a lot of nostalgia when I played it, it reminded me a fair old bit about OoT only on a much grander scale. Taking Epona across the Hylian fields as I liberated it from Zant was a lot of fun. I'd say get it, play it, enjoy it. Don't really question it because it's a Zelda Game.

I haven't completed Skyward Sword in spite of three attempts now because of how janky the combat system is compared to Twilight Princess.

So I'm dog/housesitting for my parents as they're on vacation for a week and a half in the Bahamas, and long story short I got tossed $75 for it. I'm currently playing TPHD when the dog doesn't want attention or need to go out or whatever.

I'm only a half hour in (the dog keeps trying to climb on my lap and I don't have the heart to tell him he's 70 pounds and too big for that because he just wants to cuddle) but thoughts so far:
  • I am really glad I got a used pro controller for an early christmas present because I can't imagine trying to play this on the fucking gamepad. I thought TWW was bad about that but this might potentially be even worse.
  • The new textures and shit look nice. Really nice, actually. But when a friend of mine described this game as "emote more, woodface" she was not fucking kidding.
  • You can probably guess based on my inability to tell my rather large dog that he's no longer small enough to sit on laps that I'm a big animal person. Prolly because of that I'm really liking Link's animal interactions. Especially with the cats.
  • Hahaha holy fuck, fuck fishing. It still sucks! Also I forgot how fucking hilariously bad the fishing animation itself is. I couldn't find anything that wasn't recorded on a 2007 era potato camera or didn't have some obnoxious LPer whining over it, sadly. But if you can imagine someone just standing there staring fixatedly at the water while their forearm bends in all sorts of weird directions from a point just below the elbow and no other part of their body moves while they try to reel in a fish you've got the general idea.
  • I wasted probably half of my slingshot seeds shooting Malo before I stopped fucking around and finished the slingshot tutorial. Creepy little caterpillar bastard.

EDIT: Forgot to add that Link has a bunch of pictures, books, and tapestries in his house. One picture is Epona.

    One is goat ranch guy.

The other pictures, books, and tapestries are all goats. Aberforth Dumbledore, is that you?

Última edición:
I really like Twilight Princess. It's probably the most epic and cinematic Zelda game to date if nothing else (no Skyward Sword, you definitely don't qualify). I used to play through it every Christmas for a while as a sort of tradition - most people watch Muppets Christmas Carol or some other Christmas film. Me? I played Twilight Princess. I love the atmosphere and music in the game - especially the music in the Twilight realm. I also really liked Midna - much better than Navi or *shudder* Fi. Hyrule felt very grand, and the Wild West coat of paint they gave Kakariko Village was really cool.

That said, I do understand when people say this is basically just Ocarina of Time again. It's more or less The Force Awakens to Ocarina of Time's A New Hope. People have mentioned problems with the motion controls - I personally never had any serious issues but it was a bit shoddy at times. Still better than Skyward Sword's combat and controls - you have to buy a whole new accessory to improve the motion controls and they still don't work well enough.

I don't own a Wii U, but if I did I absolutely would've picked up Twilight Princess HD if only for old time's sake.

The Star Wars analogy actually works pretty well for 3D Zelda. OOT is A New Hope. Something both simple and revolutionary at the same time. It became a massive, massive hit and changed the industry forever. Majora's Mask is Empire Strikes Back, the darker character driven sequel which was less popular, but well loved by most who experienced it. Wind Waker is Return of the Jedi, often derided for a more light-hearted tone, but with a surprisingly dark and emotional climax. Twilight Princess is Force Awakens, a good enough rehash with a few key flaws.

If this holds true then brace yourselves for Episode VIII because it's gonna be Skyward Sword.

I agree wholeheartedly with this analogy only because Majora's Mask and Empire are the best of their respective series and always will be.

The ending boss felt rushed and tacked on after the buildup. That's all I remember. That, and the Master Sword being fucking gigantic.

So because this is basically the Zelda thread I think it's worth bringing up something ridiculous that probably only existed over in Brasil.

"The Death of Zelda". A smart article might've been about how much Wind Waker was going to be shit back when it was first announced, or how shit Tri Force Heroes is and what-not. But that's not what this is about. This article came out in 2001 on a local gaming magazine, GameForce.

What is it about? Well, it's another sequel to Ocarina of Time. Two years after its ending and the Majora's Mask events, Adult Link [shut up] is called to the castle by Zelda who has been having weird dreams about a mysterious golden Ocarina. Later on she dies after telling him she wasn't worthy of the Ocarina of the Gods.

Link finds out about the "Wise Man of Pacifica" who tells him the truth, that if you look for the golden Ocarina without pure intentions you'll die and your soul gets eaten by the Sword of Souls, which is more powerful and edgier than the Master Sword. Link has to go after five demons and send their souls to Hell if he wants the key to the golden Ocarina, which is actually located in Hell for some reason, and that's where he'll be able to recover Zelda's soul as well.

Also the reason why things are like this is because the demons were at war with the Gods long ago and they got the key to Heaven while the Gods have the key to Hell which is why your head is melting right now.

It would have voice acting, zero CG animation, and a 15 million dollar budget. [2001 dollars, mind.]

...and this went on an actual gaming magazine back in the early 00s, just because there was that CG thing with Adult Link early on. [This was released around the time the PlayStation 2 came out.] Crazy, isn't it?

I'm wondering if we should ask the mods to officially make this the Zelda thread now since it doesn't look like we have one otherwise.

... also that is the most amazingly ridiculous article summary I have ever seen. I'm sad I only read one language now because I bet that article was absolutely hilarious.

Someone ported Twilight Princess to PC with all things a modern port would entail, such as higher framerate, borderless fullscreen, and a myriad other customizable QoL options you can toggle from the menu. More details here:
I loved this game growing up but never did finish it because it was a borrowed copy, so this release feels mighty tempting right now

Dragged this ancient thread kicking and screaming into the 2nd half of the 2020s lol.

How dare you make a Twilight Princess thread.... without me... ten years ago.

Dusk is legit, if it was an official product I'd buy it because it actually goes beyond what is typically done in the usual low effort HD remaster. It's smooth, and it was pretty much a wrap when I learned you can just drag and drop the WiiU textures into the game. You can make it look like the actual official HD version of the game, just with unlocked frames and a lot of other bells and whistles. It isn't a matter of subjectivity, it is the objectively best way to play TP. Want to use your GC controller? You can do that. If you've got a phone or steamdeck, you have TP on the go. It's over.

Goytendo should honestly commit seppuku for how much they've let western barbarians clown on them with this. It's embarassing.

I've only played up to dispelling the Twilight around Ordon, heading into the Jungle Temple next.

I've only had 2 issues with it, and both are very small:
- At stupidly high framerates and screen refresh (it runs over 180fps with vsync) there's some benign visual bugs, like turning the camera not being 180fps smooth
- The button to talk to Midna on a controller is the same button to open the MetaMenu where you change graphics options and such (which takes priority), and if you rebind it, it sometimes causes multiple controller binds to all open the MetaMenu instead of doing what those buttons should

All I need is to let me map items to the Z button instead of talking to midna which you only have to do a handful of times. That was always such a stupid choice since they could've just mapped calling her to one of the Dpad directions. You hardly need to pull up the map so that could've just been in the start menu

TP is the best game in the series hands down. This new pc port with texture packs and such is by far the best way to play. If you have not played this game you are missing out on the best zelda experience to ever be produced.
