I normally don't take ED seriously, but I can totally see that.

Wikipedia has an article on "the gaze." In the section on the male gaze in feminist theory, they cite TVT as a source.

That sounds like circlejerking to the max considering how many tropers are wannabe Wikipedians who just quite aren't up to the cut there. Anyone autistic enough and up on the rules enough could probably successfully go on a pogrom and get a lot of that kind of shit deleted, because of the WP:RS (Reliable Source) policy and because anything that can only be cited to TVT (which does not have such a policy really) is basically just evading that policy.

It isn't the only example of bad "tropey" content from Wikipedia, though. I'd also offer this terrible article on the "Mary Sue" term.

Oh god, that guy... didn't he get rid of the page on Lolita (the book) because it's about paedophilia?

Made me laugh pretty hard, considering the TVTropes community...

See, that I could sorta understand, since at the time they were having major problems with Google, who pulled their ads and refused to restore them until the site removed anything that could be seen to be even vaguely supportive of rape or pedophilia (I think they might have even demanded that the Lolita article be deleted, though I'm not 100% sure) . Some of the other stuff he did was just head-scratching however, such as banning the word "titular" from being used due to a misunderstanding of what the word meant, and then throwing a hissy fit and telling everyone (even the mods) to go fuck themselves when they pointed out that he was in the wrong.

If there's one thing about TV tropes, it's how they find the most minor things nightmare fuel or when they don't correct things that are already jossed.
I can't remember correctly, but most of the Zelda pages piss me off.

He went so far left he started to loop.

It's like he managed to hit both radical left and radical right bullshit and then land smack dab in the middle of that kind of whiny "wahhhh, my ethnic group sucks!" self-pitying crap.

Wasn't aware that was even possible until now.

I utterly adore TVTropes; I usually have 3-4 TVTropes tabs open at a time. It's actually an extremely entertaining website. However, I've never even stepped foot in the forums. I'd heard horror stories about it even before I became an avid TVTropes reader and that deterred me enough to not bother with the community. Sounds like I made the right choice.

To quote ED

Not surprising this place would become a breading ground for sjws.

Usually I go on "All the tropes" for my tropes fix, they advertise themselves as being censorship-free version of TVT. Don't know much about their community though.

When they said "censorship-free", they meant that they were butthurt that they could not trope Naughty Tentacles or their creepy pedo anime like Kodomo no Jikan. That is the main difference between All the Tropes and the regular wiki. I mean if you're interested in that shit then you might find that valuable, but if you aren't and you just want a better community you won't find that there. I don't know much about it, but ATT claims that they actually encrypt their passwords as opposed to TVT, which literally just stores them as plaintext files (this might have changed under new management though), so that's also a small bonus, I guess.

One of the "gems" they split away from TVT so they could preserve was an extremely weeby chart of anime bra sizes.

"useful notes on bra sizes" (not explicitly weeby but there's really no point in having this article)

Someone remind me why tropers are virgins again.

Yeah, that's definitely the best way to use TV Tropes. I loved the wiki for a while too, but I only go occasionally now because it's not that interesting to me anymore. I guess playing around with concrete concepts without really going into deeper meanings wore off after a while.

I'm also a member of TVTropes, and I actually find the sections of the forums dedicated to discussing fiction rather pleasant. I stay away from the "real life" forums though, because I hear thar be creepazoids.

I used to love tv tropes until how SJW laden ended becoming . This also creeps out in main articles and "unfurtunate implications" becomed "problematic to me". Is also funny comparing entries with new ones as you can see how currently the local TvTropes fandom feels about a series or a person(Oreimo PreIncest ending was a fun one to remember, ZP quotes everywhere before Yahtzee having a minor meltdown, Obscurus Lupa praising in YMMV section)

I feel that has become less worst than past years but now and then the SJW creeps in the main site again.

Apparently the mods realized that at some point. Nowadays you're not allowed to post Unfortunate Implications examples without also adding a link to at least one website that backs it up, and trying to just add one based on what you personally feel is offensive will more than likely get you banned from editing.

For some reason this shit is in the YMMV page of HALO4!

Spiritual Licensee/Whole Plot Reference: As noted in the WMG and Shout Outs sections, 4, at times, plays out like an adaptation of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Cortana and Chief's relationship in particular shares a lot of similarities between the relationship of Madoka and Homura.

This is not the first time I see Madoka Magica namedropped in stupid and mostly unrelated stuff but is probably the most painful. A shitty 'grim dark' magical girl show (actually not that much by other series standards but whatever) inspired by the Faust myth and a FPS SciFi military shooter about a dude in metal suit vs aliens.

WTF?

Also, WHO THE FUCK IS HOMURA IN HALO. Last time I checked Master Chief didn't travel in time to save his lesbian crush.

I'm not sure why, necessarily.

But then again, I'm pretty sure I know someone who wrote a thing there. Such disappoint.

I do spend a fair bit of time on TVTropes proper, mostly reading but sometimes editing and adding to things, but I could never really get into the forums--they just didn't hold my interest.

Looking at what you guys are saying (and what I've seen elsewhere), I'm kind of grateful for that now.

The main site is still addictive as hell though, IMO.

I remember a time where when you went through tv tropes you would find random examples that were literally the word "this" and a broken link.
it would be like "crowning moment of awesome" "dethroning moment of suck" pages that just had line after line of
this
this
this
and broken links
