So much of their identity is bound up in the gayass media they consoom. They're not grounded in anything else. They have no philosophical core and are spiritually dead. TVTropes and reddit distills so much of this soullessness in these revealing little posts. So when you say anything negative at all about the shit they like, it's as good as a personal attack because they don't exist outside of their tastes in media.

Plague of Gripes being attacked by the Naruto Fandom after his video proved that they project everything into a shitty ass power fantasy that makes them think they're not losers.
 
This thread got me curious, and maybe I’m late to the party, but after checking the tropes for things I’m familiar with, I can’t help but notice that they insist on anything at all to “challenge” heterosexuality.

Lots of “ambiguously” tropes involved in specific characters simply for having a close friend of the same sex or looking up to someone. Lots of “Even the guys/girls want him/her”, especially since there’s the “Estrogen Brigade” and “LGBT Periphery Demographic” listings on certain pages.

There’s also all the bitching and moaning about racism and post-Covid, and how grannies are totally valid, and religious trauma on pages relating to things not aging well, or being coded as this or that.

I would follow by asking why they do this, but they’re troopers. We all know.

3 orphans (2 of them growing on the aftermath of a war) are bad with emotions, the only possible answer is autism.

God I hate people who treat it as le quirky, my brother is autistic and his life basically got over before starting, hes 20 and act like hes 5. Its a fucking illness

Finding a "Diagnosed By The Audience" example that is NOT about le tism (IMPOSSIBLE)
The main page for the trope has 422 mentions of autism! (And 6 of aspergers, plus 87 of ADHD and 50-something "le neurodiverselol")

To be fair, it was originally intended to cover exclusively autism until someone (probably the brightest troper in the bunch) realized that they could force their other mental illnesses on characters as well.

Basing your entire personality on only a very specific type of media is unhealthy in so many levels, from how you socialize to your own mental health. This is why I can't stand fan types like the Buffytards at TVT, because literally everything that isn't Buffy has to be analyzed through Buffy lenses, and don't get me started on people who analyze pop media on the level of high literature.

Sure, you can analyze something based on stuff you've read before or elsewhere, because it's fun and it's a good way to talk to people who share the same interest- but these wannabes really think they're art connoisseurs for getting into, for example, "Buffy studies", like they're special for watching a shitty 90's teen drama written by an ugly sex pest, who was slightly above average at best, while they think they're smart for being snarky 24/7.

And it's all bullshit finely refined and then congealed into this thing called TV Tropes.

Wasn't it originally just "Ambiguous Disorder" though? I think you're confusing it with Hollywood Autism or other autism trope.
