For people wondering if Dr. Shaun Murphy is into the same kind of pop culture as Chris, no, due to his over-the-top tragic childhood, he didn't get to watch much or any television (and I presume he didn't have any videogame options either).
 
Something tells me reruns of Doogie Howser, M.D. is sounding like a better option, right now... No SJW bullshit holding it down and trying to put autism on some goddamn pedestal for said BS there.

At least with Monk, another sort of gimmicky mental illness related show, the protagonist's obsessive-compulsive disorder was actually directly connected to his skill as an investigator. (Or early Dexter for a more edgy example. But that show lasted long enough it absolutely blew chunks by the time it finally, mercifully ended.)

The trailer mentions something about how he has problems with social interaction and that sounds so much like a surgeon. Yeah I know surgeons are busy and don't have a lot of time to hob knob with the neighborhood. But it sounded like they were making it out to be that surgeons might as well have autism. And no surgeon I've ever been treated by was in any way atsimu. And to be honest, I would not want an autist cutting into me.

I assume as the series goes on Dr. Autism's autism will become more central to his abilities. Because he won't be distracted by silly neurotypical stuff. Just don't drop a box or Lego or a Sonic game in front of him. It will be like distracting a vampire by emptying a sack of rice out in front of him.

Yeah, about the pickles autists can have negative reactions to strong flavors and find the taste of things like pickles highly unpleasant, which would explain it.
 
Anyone still watching The Good Doctor?

It's pulling pretty impressive numbers in the ratings, usually in the 1.8-2.0 Nielsen point range, ~7% share, ~9 million "live" viewers, which is very good for a broadcast drama TV show in this day and age.

I feel the romantic plot lines involving supporting characters I really don't care that much about are a bit too pandering to shippers, although in last night's episode, it was kind of justified (Dr. Shaun Murphy, the autist, is practicing reading body language and could tell that one character was subconsciously flirting with another).
 
Well, yeah, The Good Doctor is from the exact same creator as House MD so there are strong similarities (but also differences, like how Dr. Shaun Murphy isn't in any way cynical).

I think half the reason it's getting such good ratings (by diminished 2017 standards for broadcast TV dramas) is there is a bit of a built-in audience of House MD fans looking for something with some of the same DNA.
