Tumblr Shitstorm Thread - Now Female-Presenting-Nipple-Free... We Think

Yeah, not gonna work. No matter how much they say "the filters will get better!", the technology literally isn't there to distinguish dunes from nudes, or slut walks from gangbangs. Good luck getting your userbase to keep hanging around on a broken website for the sake of incrementally improving a feature none of them want, staff.

I could easily see them ending up sued for that phrase alone. There are already jurisdictions where it's illegal to prohibit only women from being topless when men are allowed to be topless. Just phrasing it that way is probably illegal discrimination in more woke jurisdictions.

I still hope the protest costs them money. There are enough people participating to make it noticeable. And even so, people have still found ways around this bullshit ban. The stupid fucks running the site should just give up and lift it, because taking something away is just going to make people more hellbent on finding ways to fuck with your system and do what they want anyway, especially when you allowed adult content for what...11 fucking YEARS?

Either back down, or nuke the entire site. Ain't nobody need another Facebook, especially not one where nobody tries to do anything about literal pedophiles and white supremacists.

EDIT: Wait...so they're just HIDING everything that gets flagged? Doesn't that mean that they're also just HIDING the CP instead of, you know...fucking GETTING RID OF IT???? They're going to continue to house illegal exploitation of children, but they're just gonna sweep it under the rug. Fucking WOW.

Backpage tried something like this, when they just shut down the forum where human trafficking was being done. Meanwhile, they just ignored that people just moved the same activity to other boards.

This wasn't without consequences. The website is now seized and execs are behind bars.

Tumblr's stupid little games are not being ignored.

Yeah this is something I’ve been wondering too. Tumblr did mass delete a ton of map blogs and blocked all the tags using pedo codewords, but what’s to stop them from crawling back with a whole new set of code words or using the same #sfw trick like everyone else?

This isn’t a problem where Tumblr just needs to purge all the troublemakers once and then they’ll never have problems again, without due diligence they’ll just end up with a whole new infestation. But it’s also Tumblr so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Yesterday, I had to block four new porn bots that followed my blog. A+ job, Tumblr, your new policy is working so well.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the pedos came back with new code words. Even the hardcore porn bots figured out they wouldn't get flagged if they tagged everything sfw. I think it's just a matter of time before they're right back where they started.

Well, if Tumblrs staff want to drive themselves off a cliff so badly, then who am I to deny them? This whole clusterfuck has certainly provided ample entertainment.

Why do people want to stick with Tumblr? The concept is idiotic and the only way to communicate is through a butchered IM chat or reblogging and adding on your comments. It's practically just made for meme formats at this point, and even then, it's basically only in favor of being reposted elsewhere and making sense as it looks like a comment train on a thread. It's horrendous to read on its own on Tumblr.

The only reason people complain is because everyone is used to it. They follow all their degens there and in mutual understanding reject the idea of going elsewhere, which is ironic since most of the people complaining are artists; people who'd make more money from expanding their reach. The closest people come to a gallery is making a secondary blog solely for their art so they can collect it in 'archive'.

So, you know, like having two Twitters, where you can respond to inquiries easily. But I guess people don't want that, they want 100k reblogs without anyone able to call them out on their bullshit or plagiarism.

I like the blogging aspect. I enjoy the fact that I can easily voice my opinions on movies or post anime screencaps, and provided that you don't choose an awful theme all your posts are in an easy to read archive. The layout is considerably better than Twitter which has by far the worst layout of all current social media juggernauts. It's not exactly the LiveJournal replacement I wanted but it does what I need and has a large enough community of people who will actually read what I post as opposed to Blogspot.
In terms of artist they also fare better on Tumblr as opposed to Twitter. Twitter like I said has an awful layout, which can be avoided on Tumblr provided you choose a proper theme that is suited for art. Also Twitter doesn't keep a permanent backlog so art is often lost and making portfolios or even just keeping everything you've ever drawn in one place is impossible. While Deviantart/Furraffinity/Artstation/Pixiv are all better sites for posting art Tumblr also allows people to post whatever shit is on their minds making it a good alternative for people not quite so serious about their artwork who only draw fanart and are more into the fandom/social interaction side of things. It's a good middle ground

I used to scoff at Tumblr, and refused to use it because of it's reputation, but upon actually using it I really do like it. The users are mostly shit but the site layout is great. Especially if you're into posts more meaningful than short tweet, or if you want to actually look through an artists works and don't want to fight with Twitter's awful layout.

I second this. I like being able to have a layout that's easy to use, and very, very easy to customize, to the point where you can have some pretty cool-looking effects on your page. It's also nice to have a url that's as close as it otherwise gets to just having your own .com, and having unlimited hosting space without having to pay for it, and without worrying about exceeding bandwith, or other problems that come with image hosting.

Up until recently, there wasn't a limit imposed on what you could post, which was a far cry from the censorship of Facebook (which is better suited to communicating with family and coworkers rather than actually expressing yourself in a way those same people might judge you for), and the incredibly tiny character limit of Twitter (I for one have legitimate issues with being concise). Images are easier to post, collect, find, and view than those places, and you don't always have to be logged in to see most content. Even now, WITH the ban on adult content, it's not like there aren't already ways around it, and still continue posting whatever. Facebook is pretty heavily moderated, and even has "Facebook jail". Tumblr staff is so incompetent that actual criminals were able to go undetected for years.

Most people aren't there for discourse (I know I never intended to be). TL;DR: In terms of accessibility, customizability, being user-friendly, etc., it's a nice alternative to the restrictions on larger social media platforms, and is more like having your own, personal website, but without the cost.
