Even with Dubya, the big issue with Iraq and co is they didn't develop new strong institutions to replace the ones they broke down. But at least Bush did the first part, which was breaking down existing institutions of governance (i.e. Saddam and his military regime). Trump hasn't even been able to do that because it really seems to me that neither he, Kegsbreath or any of his faggots in charge seem to actually understand what it takes to have actual regime change of any sort.

I'd argue it's not even a question of christians vs shiites. Rather, it's a question of institutions and governance. Venezuela's govt had fucked itself hard because it was essentially a military dictatorship led by the man in the high chair. It hadn't made any independent but concurrent institutions which would be able to independently function; everything was dependent on the Maduro regime to give orders for actually doing anything.
However, the Iranian regime is smart; even if their Ayatollahs are the "supreme leaders" and have a lot of power, they have split their institutions in charge of protection and function of country to run independently of the Ayatollahs. So even if the man on the top gets merked, the country can still function due to the presence of these other institutions until a new head is chosen.
It's kinda like the US; if tomorrow, the US were in a war which ended with the president getting shot, the institutions in charge of military, govt, social order, etc. would not be paralyzed, but could still run independently. This is a similar thing with Iran; but Trump and co don't seem to understand shit about that.
