Anyway, on the topic of Trump, NATO, Russia, etc., I want to highlight today's assessment from the ISW (the same Institute I've previously cited) for some developments relevant to the "Most Peaceful President of All Time." There are often posts from either MAGA cultists or Russian bot farms that downplay the Russian threat to the West and NATO, but there's a greater need now more than ever for a strong alliance against Russian aggression. This post is mostly for users who don't keep up with the daily happenings between Europe, Ukraine, and Russia. I recommend reading its previous assessments, but they can be long and dense.

The Institute for the Study of War's 27 Feb 2026 assessment:

A Russian drone approached the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in the Swedish port of Malmo on February 25. The Swedish Armed Forces reported on February 27 that the Russian signals intelligence (SIGINT) ship Zhigulevsk launched a drone illegally while in Swedish territorial waters in the Oresund Strait during the visit of the Charles de Gaulle to Malmo.

Unidentified drones previously overflew a French nuclear submarine base in December 2025.[25] Such drone sightings are part of a pattern of aerial incursions into NATO airspace, possibly with the purpose of reconnoitering known European military bases, equipment, and defense infrastructure.[26] ISW continues to assess that Russia is increasingly engaging in covert and overt attacks against Europe and that ongoing Russian and suspected Russian airspace violations are likely part of Russia’s “Phase Zero” effort — Russia’s broader informational and psychological condition-setting effort that aims to prepare for a possible NATO-Russia war in the future.[27]

I wouldn't even say that we necessarily went hard left, but the rest is pretty accurate. Anecdotally speaking, the average person who flipped and voted for Carney didn't do so for any typical hard left reason, but because as you said the Conservatives were basically going to be looked at as Trump's wannabe butt buddies.

For what it's worth, I do think that Trump's timing of the start of 51st state stuff was strategically done to get a Liberal win as a pretty obvious response by the populace. It was done too just before a major international hockey tournament (jointly held between Montreal and Boston) which was roughly a month before our election which would obviously compound the magnitude of it. On the one hand it would make sense for him to have wanted Poilievre in for the aforementioned reason, but also it became pretty evident early on in his second term that Canada's going to be used a manufactured "adversarial" distraction for his remaining time in office.

It's become obvious that a lot of his base is easy to pacify with "Look at Canada!" whenever it's convenient. It's an easy target since we're not going to declare war obviously, and it's not like anyone is going to save us if things go that way. Ignore the continuing Brazilification of the US though with: "Canada has a lot of Indians! wtf don't bring up that Elon and Trump have talked about wanting a bunch of them brought in and that the VP has an Indian family and that Trump made the FBI director an Indian, etc. Other than that the country still looks and projects to look like the 1950s still lol lmao"

And insofar as legitimate desires to take us over, it's not like American glowies haven't had lots of media influence here for generations as well as previous desires to do it. It's not exactly a secret that they've been involved in trying to make Alberta separatism a thing either with trying to appeal to "Canada's Texas."
