I'm cheating posting a video from Sky News Australia, the main murdoch press in Australia and the original fox news but also somehow dumber. But it's such a pure piece of propoganda for Trump i feel compelled to share it. Immediate framing of these tariffs as a good thing that are working and making other states drop tariffs on US goods; when these states don't actually have any tarrifs and are trying to stop a trade war from going global.

i live in a country that has done shit like this. Even if there are domestic suppliers, they will raise prices because they no longer have to compete, things get very expensive .
They seem to ignore the fact that the 50s was right after WW2 so Europe Japan China were all destroyed plus a lot of 3rd world countries had gained independence. There was nobody to compete with American products at home and around the world, i think America was 50% of the global economy, but that's impossible to repeat. Plus that whole model collapsed in the 70s when inflation went up a lot.

I doubt many companies will move manufacturing back to America. The chances are that whoever is next president will undo most of these tariffs, and it will take years for most businesses to do a manufacturing move like that. Most will be better off just weathering the storm.
At most those already planning to open new plants in America may expand them, or expand preexisting factories. But even that won't make a dent in the damage Trump is doing right now.

Not only that, some Americans seem to take from granted the supremacy of the dollar, how much money the world invests into the US and its companies, having huge capital markets and other countries doing their bidding because the money they spend and the fact that they depend on them militarily. All of these things were possible because the world thought America was a reliable country. That's no longer the case. Even if some other president comes along 4 years later, the damage has been done.

I was reading an article about how the price of coffee will be one of the first to be hit from tariffs. A Trumptard in the comments said that Americans SHOULD pay more because it will teach them to save and be fiscally responsible. HUH? Then another Trumptard said that we should start buying American and had to be schooled in the fact that the only place in the US that is suited to growing coffee is Hawaii, and they can't produce enough to supply the whole nation.

Yeah, there are a lot of things that won't ever be manufactured in America again. Coffee is a good example. Another one is a lot of electronics. To make certain electronics parts you need very skilled laborers and it takes a ton of time and money to get the plant up and running.
Tariffs on certain things like steel or paper goods, sure, why not. Tariffs on everything is just fucking retarded and anyone who thinks it's a good idea is likely a NEET.
