I think perhaps the funniest legacy Trump has left re political discourse is how so many boomer-tier politicians now try to ape his writing style on twitter. But also his riffing. Put simply, Lt. Col is the highest rank you can get without having to be at least somewhat able to navigate both military politics and not be completely and utterly retarded. Usually, full birds are also formally educated at one of the military schools too. Lt Colonel is also where a lot of ROTC idiots end up at some point. Basically, it's a rank full of a lot of people who might be quite good in one area but completely retarded at a lot of other things, or specialists who are better off at that rank (military intelligence, analysts, instructors, etc.) because being a full bird is a lot more responsibility, or idiots who just stick with it out of ROTC and don't say anything completely retarded in front of someone important so they get promoted because of seniority. Plenty of Lt. Colonels are good staff officers, the things that make someone a good staff officer don't always translate to, well... being mentally stable.
