This is why it is hard for me to feel sorry for Charlie. It is why I am ambivalent and apathetic. What happened was terrible, terrible for his family, terrible for the people who witnessed it, and terrible overall for the discourse and direction of politics in the US. He didn't deserve to be murdered, nor should anyone be shot like that.
However, Charlie made a living throwing fuel on the very same fire that ended up consuming him, one that is going to continue to grow and burn others. And the reaction of most people is to grab a jerry can and join in. It is peak retardation.
