In late october of 2001 Max penned an op-ed about the state of the war in Afghanistan.
In this little screed he decried the Bush administration for it's "bloodless, push button" war.
He then went on to say that the war should be won with "American blood and guts instead of Afghan blood and guts".
In other words he wanted the Battle of the Bulge not the Battle of Tora Bora.
A defender might make the argument that he just wanted the war to be fought to the utmost America was/is capable of but in truth like any good NeoCon he just wanted some war porn to salivate over.
Thus we get Max "Blood and Guts" Boot.
I just realized I have a book by him on my bookshelf. Shit. That'll teach me to buy books in airports when I'm bored to death. Anyone need some kindling?
Interestingly, the book is Invisible Armies, a book about guerrilla warfare and insurgency efforts throughout history, and one notable exclusion is any account of America in Afghanistan. All you get is one paragraph describing CIA operatives arriving in Kabul and this shot at Bush, quote: "Bin Laden and Zawahiri were able to escape into Pakistan due to the blunders of American military commanders and their bosses in Washington who did not send enough troops to trap them in the Tora Bora mountains outside Jalalabad..."
