Is he just bombing isis and not also boko haram? Both are active terror cells in northern Nigeria.

It should be noted that the southern part of Nigeria, especially where the Igbo live, are Christian and educated, many of whom built much of the infrastructure and bureaucracy that has allowed Nigeria to be a mostly stable African nation.

The north is a Muslim-dominated desert hellhole that is typical of all the worst traits of the Islamic and African worlds. If it wasn't for the fact that they treated the colonial British administrators like gods, they would have realized that forcing the two into a national union was a bad idea.

Boko harams leader pledged allegiance to isis in 2015 and they were allies until Isis leadership wanted to replace him in 2016 because of his extreme methods, with the cousin of the original founder of boko haram.
After this the group split into one loyal to isis and one that wasn't, then become hostile to one another while still being at war with the Nigerian government

This is a bit complicated. So Boko Haram was founded in 2002, predating ISIS by over a decade, but in 2015 Abubakar Shekau (leader of Boko Haram, became world famous for gloating about the mass kidnapping of nearly 300 Christian schoolgirls from Chibok in 2014, hence #BringBackOurGirls trending around that time; less well-known is that he also burned ~60 boys to death in another school attack two months prior) became a nominal vassal of ISIS. However, he was very disobedient - basically seemed to think of ISIS as a hip brand he could exploit to increase his own popularity and didn't much care for whatever ISIS's central command (which had not yet been bombed to dust by Trump at the time) told him to do - and such a turbonigger that eventually even ISIS started telling him to cool his raping & pillaging ways.

Bastard never listened and made such a regional nuisance of himself that the African governments in the region started actually trying to beat him, resulting in an approximately ~5 year losing streak for Boko Haram. After Boko Haram got buckbroken by the Nigerian gov't & allies in the latter's big 2015 offensive, a bunch of niggers discontent with Shekau's leadership (they thought he was an incompetent edgelord who was going to get them all killed basically) mutinied and proclaimed themselves the West African Province of ISIS's Caliphate, professing actual loyalty to then-Caliph Al-Baghdadi and slightly less niggerish ways of waging war. They weren't kidding either, while still cheerfully murderous & rapey Mohammedan turboniggers, they managed to be the lesser of two evils in their civil war with Boko Haram up until Shekau's suicide (indeed, gathering more popular support from the local tribesmen by being less over-the-top psycho was one of the reasons why they beat Boko Haram). Part of Shekau's deal was that he considered all non-Boko Haram Nigerian Muslims to also be heretics and thus fair game for mass murder, enslavement, etc. whereas ISWAP backed off from that position a bit in hopes of expanding their reach to form a pan-Muslim front vs. the Nigerian gov't, and denounced Shekau instead as the true heretic (in their words, Khawarij).

Tl;dr Shekau managed to out-nigger ISIS for a fleeting moment in time. However, real life is not a novel written by GRRM and so instead of succeeding, him being an unpredictable, treacherous and eagerly atrocious turbonigger ended up costing him all his support & getting his dumb ass killed.

Anyway since Shekau killed himself, Boko Haram has bounced back from the brink of annihilation under the leadership of the guy who killed his successor Bakura Doro, who has been a much lower-profile figure compared to Shekau and has largely dropped the megalomaniac delusions about spreading Islamism internationally in favor of an 'Islamism in one country' strategy that echoes those of the Taliban and Syria's HTS. It's too early to proclaim him the nigger equivalent to Syria's supreme sandnigger Al-Sharaa/Al-Jolani though; ex-Al Qaeda emir he may be, but it also can't be denied that AJ is a very canny politician especially by (and even outside of) Islamist standards in addition to being an able strategist, while Doro has shown himself to be a somewhat competent tactician at best who's so far managed to keep the remnants of Boko Haram barely above water. ISIS is very much the bigger & cooler giganigga on North Nigeria's block these days, so it makes sense that the US would rather bomb them than the rather moribund Boko Haram.

I'll add that one chunk of the Christian south, the Igbo homeland of Biafra (which conveniently also has much of Nigeria's oil), tried to secede in the 1960s. The result was a war whose list of participants became a meme because of how wild it was; the Nigerian gov't (then controlled by Muslims & their dhimmis) was supported by the UK, US, USSR, the Ethiopian Empire and Somalia among many others while Biafra got help from France, Red China, West Germany, Czechoslovakia, Rhodesia, South Africa, the Vatican, Salazar's Portugal & Francoist Spain also among others; Israel meanwhile sold weapons to both sides, because of course the Jews would do that. Unfortunately Wikipedo has since taken the fun out of their Biafra War page.

In the end the Nigerians won by starving Biafra to death (this was the first war to have become internationally famous for tugging at observers' heartstrings with photos & articles in mass media about the poor starving Igbo babies + celebrities like Muhammad Ali weighing in on the conflict, predating for example Ethiopia with Live Aid & such) and also exploiting the Igbos' own ethnic rivalry with neighboring peoples like the Yoruba & Ijaw. However, in more recent years Biafran nationalists have begun to make a comeback. Their leaders (based abroad) keep getting arrested by various police forces around the world, but the insurgents actually on the ground seem able enough to survive gov't crackdowns and hold territory.

The Igbo, FWIW, have long had a reputation as one of the smartest and generally least niggerish peoples in Subsaharan Africa. They independently discovered math and invented their own banking system as well as founding large-scale tribal democracies in pre-colonial times, then further raised their collective IQ by selling all their retards into slavery during the age of the trans-Atlantic slave trade (as many as 15% of the slaves sent to the Americas are estimated to have been Igbos). The British favored them as local low-level colonial administrators back in the day (this was one of the reasons as to why other Nigerian peoples, even other Christians, resented & hated them) while the Igbos themselves were among the most enthusiastic supporters of Christianity & Westernization in their Nigerian colony, and Kissinger & Nixon (who was himself pro-Biafra, but couldn't intervene by the time he was elected due to having a million other problems back home & in 'Nam) thought of them as the 'Jews of Africa' (I can believe that based on these niggas developing their own banking system before any ytboi came to their shores).
